“Ahh, my god-granddaughter... or something like that. My beautiful Negan, uniquely raised by the females of my clan as they tried to undo the damage that her father wreaked—”

“It was one haircut that went awry!” Oshin snarls as he steps forward for his daughter. “Come, my beautiful princess. Look at how much yer hair grew out. I told ye it was like pruning herbs. Grew faster, it did.”

“Yes, daddy,” she says, kissing his cheek.

From where I stand, I can see Varguk of the Southpeaks do a double-take. And after Negan kisses her dad’s cheek, she freezes when she notices him, probably stunned at the way the fool stares at her like a stalker. And when she lowers her lashes sultrily, I realize the poor girl is blind, for surely she wouldn’t look at him willingly with that flirtatious gaze. Not if she could see him up close.

I almost twitch when the next female that emerges, then scowl at my sister. Tok grins and presses forward for her, holding her hand carefully because my sister is still a clumsy oaf. Why she insists on billowing skirts is beyond me.

“My lovely granddaughter. Didn’t take my first arranged marriage, the lovely couple, long to start spitting out my gorgeous descendants,” Brachard blusters, hitting me square in the back with a beefy fist.

And finally... finally my Shalia appears, shy and beautiful and looking so much like herself my heart hurts.

“And here she is. The long-lost daughter of Latsil and Joanna, their first-born, Shalia,” Brachard says.

I reach her side, and take both of her hands to help her carefully down the steps.

“And you may all be wondering why I gathered you here today...”

“You look beautiful,” I whisper to Shalia.

She studies me, and then her eyes widen when she narrows on the bridge of my nose.

“Oh, my.” She covers her mouth. “Bakog! You have mating marks.”

“Aye, my love. I couldn’t have you go through life with the marks all alone.”

“You did this for me?”

“Of course. Done by a real, live Blackheart.”

Oshin snorts.

Her laughter tinkles through my soul. “It’s perfect. When did you do it?”

“’Tis why we rode in before the carriage, cara’jek.”

“... and that brings me to why I requested our friends and family come to this wonderful town of Creede. I hereby proclaim my last mating for two little girls who insisted that one day they wanted me to force two males in my clan to take them. A grandfather can’t help but listen. So, it is hereby announced that my eldest grandchildren are hereby mated this day. Bakog, to the precious Shalia. And Tok, to the beautiful Hisa. Males, my word is final. Do your best with what the clueless orc gods dealt you.”

And it’s not quite what Shalia expected, but she starts snickering, and then Hisa lets loose with her laughter, and Negan joins in.
