"No," she replied. "Engineer. See that insignia?"

"Right... right... Not native, either."

She hesitated, half wanting him to cycle away from the image, but also beginning to ponder if maybe she was staring a gift horse in the mouth.

Two cops dead...

"Who's the marine?" she asked.

Ethan paused, clicking a couple of links, then cleared his throat. "Brother," he said.

"You sure?"

"Yup."

She frowned again, crossing her arms, and exhaling a bit more comfortably as the air conditioning filled the cabin of the car.

She shifted back and forth in her seat, trying to find a comfortable position, but failing to.

What the hell was she missing?

"Come on..." she whispered to herself. "Come on..."

"What?"

"Men in uniform."

"Think that's a connection?"

"I mean... no..."

"But?"

She wrinkled her nose. "I mean... Anna, Kendra..."

"Remi," he pointed out.

"Right... Remi Dawes. Her family... The sheriff... Kai... Another relative of a man in uniform."

Now, she was speaking with more excitement.

"But what about Anna? Maria—aka Kendra? A prostitute and a drug smuggler?"

"Like I said before, I think Maria only accidentally stumbled onto the scene. I think she was a victim of circumstance. She was only shot to kill. Anna was shot to make her suffer. Remember?"

"Yeah... yeah... so... Maybe Anna has relatives in the military?"

"Maybe... Look it up."

He did, fingers flying across the keyboard. But after a few moments, he shook his head. "No names showing up anywhere, Rachel."

"Shit," she said, grinding her teeth.

She frowned, closing her eyes. Then they snapped open again.

"What? What is it?"

Darkness now stretched across the sky as evening was quickly replacing the sun. When had that happened?
