I shiver for a second and run my hands up and down my arms while my teeth start to chatter a little.

“No, stitches but Mom has band-aids in her first aid kit. Wipe her up and get her warm, she’s freezing,” Austin tells Ryker. “You didn’t hit your head, did you?” he asks, checking both my pupils.

“No,” I tell him.

“Ok, good. It’ll be a little bruised tomorrow, but you’ll be fine,” Austin says.

“I’m going to take her up to the house,” Ryker says, wrapping an arm around my shoulders in an attempt to warm me up.

“Feel better, Juliet,” Sienna says behind us as we walk back up the hill.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hit you that hard,” Ryker says as we walk back up the hill and toward the house.

“I’m fine Ryker, I promise,” I try to assure him.

“One more round?” Camden asks the rest of the group from a ways away.

They all agree and head up toward the house.

We pass by Annie who's outside with the kids on the playground.

She looks up with a smile at us and then sees the gash I’m assuming is on my forehead. “Oh my gosh, are you ok?” she asks, standing quickly out of her chair like she’s about to run after us but then she looks toward the playground.

“Yeah, I’m ok. Just cold,” I say quickly.

“I’m going to take her in and get her bandaged up,” Ryker tells her.

“Ok… band-aids are in the hall closet. Call me if you need me. And get a blanket on her,” she says quickly.

I can see in her eyes that her mother’s instincts are kicking in and she’s struggling not to come with us but she has littles to watch and Ryker can take care of me.

We head into the kitchen and Ryker lifts me up and sets me next to the sink.

He takes off his jacket and lays it over my wet jeans. The body heat from the inside of his jacket goes a long way to warming me but I’ll need to get out of these wet clothes to warm up.

He grabs a paper towel, wets it, and then starts to lightly pat the wound.

I hiss the second the wet towel meets my cut.

“Here, I’ll be right back. I need to get a band-aid and some antibiotic cream for it.”

“Ok, thanks.”

I watch as he heads out of the kitchen and down the hall quickly.

He comes back with a white and red first aid bag and sets it down next to me.

He pulls out the cream and squeezes a little on his finger.

“I’m sorry I rammed you that hard. I only meant to push you out of bounds.”

The guilt in his voice is so sweet but he shouldn’t feel so badly. I already told him that I’m fine.

Besides, it was all for fun and at high speed on inner tubes, there isn’t a lot of control you have to change direction. It wasn’t really his fault. I know he wouldn’t hurt me on purpose.

“You were just threatened that I was going to beat you,” I say with a devilish grin.

He chuckles and looks up at me.
