Ryker smiles up at me and then pulls the ring out of its box and slides the cold platinum band with the small planet sized diamond onto my left hand.

If I didn’t think the stadium could get any louder, it does. The entire stadium erupts, my ears ringing for the sounds. All I can do is stare down at how ring feels on my finger.

This is temporary… so why does this ring feel so permanent?

Either way, there’s no going back.

This ring seals my decision.

I’m marrying Ryker Haynes.

Ryker stands and pulls me into him. I wrap my arms around his neck with the boutique still in my hand.

I take the chance to bury my face into his shoulder, seeking just a moment to hide and get some privacy from the crowds of people watching on.

Ryker’s mouth presses against the left side of my head as he holds me even tighter like he knows I need the reassurance that he has me, more than just physically.

That we’re in this together.

“You won’t regret this. I’ll make it worth it. Your brother will get the care he needs, I’ll make sure of it.”

“Thank you,” I say against his shoulder.

A second passes and then he speaks again.

“They're going to expect us to kiss.”

My stomach flips instantly at the idea.

I hadn’t considered it but I know he’s right.

“And the games about to start back up so I need to put you back,” he says.

I nod in agreement.

There’s no way out of it.

Getting engaged and not kissing would be odd, even with so many people watching.

“We’ll keep in PG. Little kids are watching and all.”

I pull back and our eye lock onto one another.

His eyes dart between mine for a moment and then they drop to my mouth.

His head dips down and his lips lock onto mine.

The kiss is soft and sweet.

It’s more than a peck as his lips engulf mine but the kiss is fit for family consumption.

The kiss only lasts a few seconds but the way the butterflies break loose low in my belly tells me that kissing my future husband for the cameras over the next twenty-four months won’t be such a difficult task.

He pulls back from our kiss but his eyes stay glued to mine for a moment. Those sage green eyes glimmer against the reflection of the icy blue rink surrounding us.

Whatever you do, don’t fall in love with him. I remind myself. This isn’t permanent.

None of this is real.
