“Trying to seduce me?”

His eyes dart between mine. “I don’t know… is it working?”

A knock on the door cuts the moment like a knife.

Ryker stands up to head for the door and I grab his arm.

“Don’t you even think about it,” I warn.

“What? I can’t answer my own door now?” he asks, tossing up his hands.

“Not like that you can’t,” I say.

“Is this the jealous side of Juliet?” he asks with a devilish grin.

“No. It’s not that. If she sees you like this,” I say, motioning to his shirtless torso, “she’ll never stop hounding me about living with the playgirl centerfold.”

He laughs. “You’re kidding?”

“No… I’m not.”

I slip off the barstool, grabbing my plate of food because now, that sexual tension has me starving and I’m taking my breakfast with me.

Another knock sounds at the door. This time, it’s a little more impatient than the last.

“She’s here. I have to go. Thank you for breakfast,” I say, running to the door and debating how I’m going to keep my nosy friend from barging in here to see what’s going on between us.

“Don't you need to take anything with you?”

“No. I'm sure Shawnie has everything we need,” I say, knowing that my best friend is probably over-prepared as usual.

I slip on my shoes and grab my purse before opening the door.

Shawnie beams, holding an iced coffee in her hand for me.

“You’d better caffeinate for what I’ve got in store for you,” she says as I try to shut the door behind me. “Hey, don’t I get to see the place before we go?”

“No,” I bark.

“Bye Shawnie,” Ryker says, barely catching Shawnie’s eye before the damn soft shutting door cuts out her view inside.

“Oh my God, you horn dog. You couldn’t even wait until your wedding night?” Shawnie says to me, loud enough that Ryker hears it.

I hear him chuckle before his footsteps take him away.

I grab Shawnie’s arm, balancing my plate of breakfast in the other.

“Come on, we’re going,” I demand, leading her to the elevators.

“You ready to get married?” she asks with glee.

“As ready as I’m ever going to be.”

Chapter Fourteen
