“I know,” he says back.

A look of defeat on his face and the smell of sex all around us leaves me feeling a little guilty for saying it. This was my idea, not his, and I knew better than to give into my moment of weakness and his close proximity.

I climb off his lap and grab my clutch with my phone and key fob in it. Then I step out onto the parking lot asphalt barefoot, keeping the door close to shield me while I pull my dress back down over my hips.

This parking lot has security, so my car will be safe here overnight. I didn’t have a lot to drink, but there was no point in risking it when we always had plans to walk back as a group anyway.

I yank down my dress to cover up my exposed skin and decide to leave the underwear. I can’t take one more second with him.

“I didn’t drink. I can drive you home,” he offers.

“I’d rather walk,” I say.

“I can drive it to the apartment then so that you have it in the morning.”

I nod, barely looking at the man I just took bare while his cock is still hard sticking out of his pants. Slade quickly fumbles around to grab my shoes off the driver's side floorboards.

I would have left without them. It’s all cement sidewalk from here to the apartment building. But without shoes, there will be more questions.

“Here,” he says, reaching for my jacket in the back seat.

I slip on my shoes and then my jacket.

“Are you going to get into the driver's seat?” I ask.

He looks down at his erection, which hasn’t gone limp in the slightest.

“I’ll need another minute,” he says.

“Slade! Penelope! Let’s go,” I hear Lake’s voice in the distance.

I look to find our whole crew waiting on me, minus Brent, Kaenan, and Isla, who live in the suburbs and have already left.

I pull out the key fob in my clutch and toss it to him.

He catches it, and then I head towards the group waiting for me.

A text comes through my phone as I walk to join the group.

Isla: Sorry your birthday ended with that creep touching you. I hope you're ok. Thank God Slade was there to step in.

I shoot off a quick text back.

Penelope: It would have been fine without Slade. All he did was make a scene.

Isla: Go easy on Slade. I was there, and the drunk didn’t seem to get the hint. Plus, Lake wasn’t far behind and he wouldn’t have held back like Slade did.

Isla: Kaenan said if he had seen what happened before Slade did, he would have put that dunk in a choke hold within the first second for touching you and thrown him out of the bar.

I know that Lake or Kaenan… or any of the other players in the bar would have stepped in too. But they don’t have a history of overstepping like Slade does.

A few minutes later, my red Mercedes drives by us.

“Is Slade driving your car back to the apartments?” Lake asks, walking arm in arm with Tessa directly in front of me, with Seven and Brent behind, bringing up the rear of our group.

“Yeah,” I say simply.

Tessa watches the car as it passes us and then pulls her arm out of Lake’s and hangs back to link arms with me. She slows down our pace until Seven and Brent move past us and join Lake, bringing him in on their conversation.
