What the hell?

I try turning the faucet handle on and off again but nothing comes out. I try the bathroom sink but it’s running fine.

Great, just great.

Now, I don’t even get a shower.

I call the apartment management company for this building. There’s only one maintenance guy for this building but he’s usually quick to come by and check on things.

“Pacific North Management, how can I help you?” a woman answers.

“Hi, yes, this is Penelope Roberts. My shower isn’t working, but the bathroom sink is. I think there’s something wrong with the shower head. Can you send the maintenance guy to my apartment at The Commons, apartment 718?”

“I’m sorry, Penelope but the usual maintenance personnel for that building is on vacation. I will call the maintenance personnel from one of our other buildings and ask him to stop in and see what he can do,” she says.

“Ok, that would be great, thank you.”

“No problem. I know he’s pretty backed up with his workload, but he has 72 hours to see to a non-emergency situation.”

“Seventy-two hours? You’re kidding, right? My shower doesn’t work? How am I supposed to get ready for work every morning?”

She doesn’t know that I can use the stadium where I work at to shower because that’s not the point. I should have a working shower.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Roberts, for the issues you are experiencing. Our maintenance personnel will be there as quickly as possible. However, he has to make emergency calls first, and then he’ll get to the other calls in order of when they were placed, and we’ve had a lot of calls this week.”

“Wait, hold on a second…”

I’m about to tell her that this is unacceptable and that the Hawkeyes spend a lot of money putting players up in this apartment building because of me, but before I can, she speaks again.

“I have another call coming in. Have a lovely day,” And then she hangs up.

I check my phone to make sure she actually hung up on me and I see that the call has ended.

“That little…”

I want to call her back and give her a piece of my mind, but there’s no point in pissing her off. She could move me further down the list if she wanted to.

I’d better not chance it.

At least I have a place to shower… just not today.

Damn it.

Chapter Seventeen

Penelope

It’s been a couple of days since Slade and I went to the gym for practice, and my shower still needs fixing.

The good news is that the guys won the first game of the Western Conference 2nd round.

They play tonight and then they’ll be home late tonight or early in the morning depending on how late media goes and when the jet gets in.

A text comes in from Isla.

Isla: Sunny offered to take Berkeley tonight, so it will only be me. I’m going to drop her off at Sunny and Marc‘s new house and then head over to your apartment. What can I bring to eat for the game?

Sunny, Isla’s future mother-in-law, is a doll and loves having Berkeley whenever she can. Ever since Kaenan won full custody of Berkely, Sunny has been dating Kaenan’s lawyer, Marc Salinger. She’s been spending more time in Seattle as much as she can, and she takes Berkeley as often as Kaenan and Isla are willing to part with her.
