Only then does he begin to pull out and then tuck his erection back in his underwear, though the tip still peaks out of the top.

My dress bunches around me, still hiked up but covering most of everything.

“I’m not pregnant. That test was for a friend. She took it last night,” I tell him, trying not to give Isla away.

It’s not my news to share and it’s certainly not information that Slade needs before Isla tells Kaenan, though I imagine she told him last night.

“You’re not pregnant?” he asks.

The disappointment in his eyes is unmistakable.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. I told you; a friend took it—”

“I know but… are you… late?” he asks, trying to find a delicate way to ask such a personal question.

A question that I never thought Slade Matthews of all men would ask me. The problem is, I can’t say no to his inquiry because… I am a couple of days late.

“I should have started two days ago,” I tell him honestly. “But that’s not unusual for me. I’m sure it’s coming,” I say quickly to assure him that being a day or two late means nothing.

“Then you still could be pregnant?”

His eyes anxiously searching mine as if he’s hoping I’ll agree to that possibility.

“I’m on birth control, so I can’t be,” I say, unsure if I’m trying to convince him or me.

Though with Isla’s surprise, it has the doubt festering in the back of my mind. Maybe stopping at the market down the road to get my own pregnancy test on my way home wouldn’t be the worst idea.

Giving myself peace of mind while I wait for my period to start will keep me from tossing and turning tonight wondering if I’ll wake to my period or if I’ll wake to another day of an unanswered question.

Am I pregnant with Slade Matthews's baby?

At the same time, not working myself up and just giving it a couple more days would be better.

Slade's question about whether or not I would consider completing in the Olympics could turn out to be no longer plausible anyway if I'm pregnant.

The door to reception opens, and Slade quickly lunges forward to cover me, not that there is much to see.

“Hey, do you want to get lunch at Seredipity’s—oh my God, you guys!” Tessa says, shielding her eyes quickly when she sees that I’m sitting on my desk with my dress still hiked up and Slade's pants down at the ankles.

She turns quickly and slams the door closed behind her.

“Do I need to wear a damn cowbell so you two can hear me coming or what?” her sarcastic voice muffled behind the door.

“I’ll meet you at Serendipity’s in fifteen minutes,” I yell to her.

“Good, you have a lot of explaining to do.” She says, and then I hear her footsteps becoming fainter as she stomps back down the hall.

“Fifteen minutes? Don’t you think we should talk?” he asks as I lay my hand against his chest to push him back.

He goes without much effort on my part, taking a couple of steps away from me to allow me to slip off my desk.

“Talk about what?” I say.

“About how we keep finding ourselves fucking in unusual places. Maybe we should take this to an apartment bedroom next time. One of ours, preferably.”
