“I don’t know what they gave me. I told Mary to fill it with whatever she thought the three of you would like.”

He drops the box on the conference table. Neither Tessa nor Autumn waits for a second to push out of the chairs and walk over.

They open the box and “oh and aw” at the contents, each selecting a pastry.

“And this is for you,” he says, walking over and placing the to-go cup next to me on the other side of the conference table.

“Thanks,” I say, seeing Tessa and Autumn grinning at me in my peripheral.

“No problem. I have a PT appointment downstairs, and then I’ll head over to your place to fix the shower.”

I nod, and then Slade turns to head out.

“Have a good meeting, ladies,” he says, giving Autumn and Tessa a quick wave.

They each thank him for the snacks and then he disappears past the conference door, closing it behind him.

“Want one?” Autumn asks.

“No thanks,” I say, pulling my tablet closer and start jotting down more notes.

“Are you sure? There are a couple of sticky buns in here—your favorite,” Autumn says.

“I’m not hungry, but thanks."

I don't want to give in to Slade's sweet gesture.

Why is he making it so hard to push him aside? Especially now that I’m meeting Win tomorrow.

“You’re turning down a sticky bun? Aren’t you on your period? You’re usually a week behind me,” Tessa says.

Shit!

With everything going on, I totally forgot that I was going to give myself another day or two to see if my period started before testing. Now I’m four days late. That’s still not unheard of for me but it’s not common either.

I can feel the blood drain from my face instantly.

“You don’t look so good. Are you getting sick?” Autumn asks.

“Actually, I think you might be right. I don’t feel very well all of a sudden,” I say, rising from my chair.

“Don’t worry about the meeting. We can handle everything—just go home,” Tessa says.

I nod, grabbing my tablet and my chai off the table.

“I’ll go lay down for a little bit and see if I feel better,” I tell them as I head for the door.

More like, I’m going to go home, take a pregnancy test, and if everything checks out, I’ll come back to work.

If it’s positive, I’ll have to think of a way to tell Win that I’m pregnant. Will he still want to meet me?

I already know how Slade will react to finding out I’m pregnant, and it can only be his.

This just got so messy.
