I could sense the mood changing quickly, so I throw a piece of tinsel around Aria’s neck and hook it like a scarf.

Spencer steps in. “Since you two look very Christmassy, it falls on you both to tell us what we’re supposed to be doing.”

I hook another bit of tinsel around Clay’s neck and push him playfully. We’ve all had enough of being doom and gloom. It’s about time we had some fun, and even if this isn’t what I would have picked, I do enjoy spending time with my family, and Aria’s family are a part of me now. One day we’ll have our own family to add to it. That’s a promise I can make every single person in this room.

I’m never letting Aria or the baby go. They’re mine now.

I drop my spoon into the bowl and sit back in my seat. My mom always did make a mean pie. I’m stuffed.

“Mom, that was amazing.”

“I second that,” says Aria.

I throw my arm around the back of her chair. I’m ecstatic to see her eating a decent meal tonight and not just picking at it.

“Mrs. Shawland, I won’t be able to eat another thing until Christmas Day,” says Spencer dramatically.

“Good job we’ll all be here for Christmas Day then, isn’t it?”

This is the first time I’m hearing about our Christmas plans, but I don’t hate them. Christmas is a time for celebrating with your loved ones. It isn’t the first time that we’ve celebrated with the Marshalls, and I can’t see it being the last.
