Chapter 28

Spike

I sit on the floor of the empty unit I’ve claimed as mine. I’m covered in blood from head to toe. I stare at my red hands, shaking from the adrenalin rush. The feel of the dried blood coating my skin is euphoric. I feel alive.

Last night, I was angry. I was frustrated. It was Christmas and I was alone. I watched Aria’s whole family arrive at that fucking compound. They were all happy and content. They shouldn’t be happy. The thought of them all celebrating Christmas riled me up. I haven’t ever felt anger like it before. It was possessing me. Controlling my every move.

I drove away from my spot outside the compound. I drove for hours until I stopped outside a university campus. A group of girls staggered over the green and I saw stars. I don’t know what came over me, they weren’t my type. They were the complete opposite of my little one. They were probably rich kids, but I needed a release. I needed to get rid of the anger that was consuming me.

I’m smiling at the thought of their sweet bodies underneath me. Their pale skin that turned red from their blood shed by my hands. Their bulging eyes when I squeezed any remaining life out of them. It was pure heaven.

You did good, Spike. You did good. Now you need to stick to the plan. Get your feisty little one home. She’s yours. All yours. Her cop is probably fucking her as you sit here now.

I shake my head vigorously to empty my mind of the evil voice that plagues me daily. “I’ll get her back. I will. I promise.”

I grab my hair in my hands and pull it hard. I need to get her back… soon.
