I walk away from the front of the room right into Drew’s arms. If tonight has taught me anything it is that I can do whatever I want to do. I have nothing holding me back.

Chapter 27

Drew

I’ve watched Harper shine tonight. I am so proud of all she has achieved. She has worked so hard to get here today, and now it’s my turn to show her how much I love her.

When she walks into my arms, I hold her tight and inhale her beautiful scent.

I whisper into her ear, “Take a walk with me.”

“Okay.”

My dad winks at me as we leave the gallery. He knows what I’m about to do. I don’t know why, but I am bloody nervous about this.

“Where are we going?” Harper asks.

“I thought we'd take a walk along the water. It’s a nice night and I need some fresh air. Who am I kidding? I just want you to myself for five minutes.”

Harper giggles and it warms me from the inside out. I stop at the fence that separates the beach area from the path.

“You’re acting rather weird, Drew.”

“You know I’d do anything for you, right?”

“I know you would. You already give so much to me without thinking about yourself.”

“Because I love you. I cannot live one more night without you in my bed.”

“Drew...” she turns away from me and stops dead in her tracks. On the wall of the garden, there’s a banner, and it says, “Welcome home, Harper.”

The moment those words sink in, her hands cover her mouth and she looks over her shoulder at me.

“Seriously? How? We can’t afford it with the shop and the house.”

“My dad has helped us out until we sell the other house. Me, Derren, Jack, and Pete have been packing up the house and moving things in here. We can decorate when we’re ready to.”

“You’re being serious, aren’t you?”

I take out the keys from my pocket and dangle them in front of her. She jumps into my arms and holds me tight. I feel her body shuddering and I know already that her emotions have got the better of her. My girl always did wear her heart on her sleeve.

“I take it you’re happy about this?”

“More than. Every day when I walked along here, I tried to see the new owner, but it was always empty.”

“We did most of the moving when you weren’t around. It took a lot of planning, but we did it. I was determined to give you this gift tonight because you are so worth it.”

“We are so worth it, Drew. I really do love you.”

“I really do love you too.”

And I could die right now a happy man because I heard Harper say those magic words. I love you.
