“You don’t. Take a message. I’m always in a meeting.”

I wrinkled my brow.

“It’s a tactic I use, so I have time to look over their file. Chances are, they’re calling me to ask a ton of questions. It stalls for me to look over it.” He pushed back from the desk and stood. “Come with me.”

I watched the way his formal slacks hugged his perfect ass as I followed him by four office doors to one of the black half-round desks in the top-floor lobby. It was tidy, with general office supplies in cute silver containers. A photo of a couple was in the corner. James pulled the chair out and I glanced at the silver sign on the dark brown wall behind me before I sat down.

Perching on the edge of the desk, he crossed his arms, peering down at me.

“So just take messages and bring you the info, right?”

“You need to stay out here.”

“Why?” I scanned the empty lobby and long hallway on the opposite side, which was bustling with employees. Then I brought my gaze back to his.

“Madison.” He sighed.

“James.” I mocked in his own tone.

Jaw clenched, he curled his fingers around my arm behind the desk. “You need to remain out here today unless I state otherwise. I have some important people coming in for a meeting later this morning.”

“Do I need to bring them to you, at least?”

Standing, he shook his head subtly. “Vinny’s one of them. He’s got it, don’t worry.”

“Okay, so what do I do while I wait for these calls?”

“Hold on for dear life, baby girl,” he muttered under his breath as he strode away.

“Wait… what?” My eyes widened, then lowered to my lap, and I exhaled, “Oh shit.”

It’d been two hours, and I’d taken several calls, doing exactly as he wished. Take a message. Stay out of his office. I spoke with another receptionist on the other side of the lobby several times while she came and went from meetings. I asked general questions, but she was busy with the associate lawyers who worked for James. At 10:55 a.m., she excused herself with two of the attorneys and they went to court.

Not more than five minutes after they left, I was busying myself on my social media. The phone was quiet for now and I was bored. “Shit!” I yelped at the sudden vibration on my clit and against my G-spot. My phone tumbled from my grip, landing loudly on the lower level of the desk. Fumbling to grab it, I knocked it off the surface and bent down to retrieve it.

When I sat up, the elevator doors parted. Vincenzo exited with Dimitri, Antonio, and two men I’d never met before.

“Oh no,” I mumbled, sitting up straight, feigning a smile while peering over the taller counter. “MMMORning!” I squeaked.

Crossing my knee over the other, I pressed my thighs together as tightly as I could. Eyes closed, I cleared my throat, trying to suppress the moan begging to leave my mouth. I gripped the edge of the desk as hard as I could. The vibration stopped and my eyes shot open.

“Good morning,” Antonio greeted in passing.

Vincenzo nodded once, murmuring, “Morning, Maddie,” as they paraded through the lobby in their pricy suits toward James’s office.

The moment they were out of sight, I fell back lazily in the chair, taking a deep breath. My eyes widened at the wet sensation. “Damnit,” I hissed, jumping up, and staring down at the small puddle on the black leather seat. Pinning my bottom lip between my teeth, I scanned the modern, open room for any sign of tissues… or maybe a bath towel.

The other elevator’s doors parted, and three more men exited. I sat back down quickly, rolling the chair under the desk. “Good morning, gentlemen.”

The tallest stopped in his tracks, grinning. “Well, good morning to you.” He strode over as the other men waited close to the hallway entrance. He leaned an elbow on the higher surface, scrutinizing me. “You’re new.”

Offering a warm smile, I nodded. “Only temporary.”

He matched my expression, wagging his finger at me. “I know you from somewhere.”
