“Okay.” He nodded.

“That’s not why you wanted to speak to me, is it?” He was most definitely on to James and me, and I had a feeling I was about to be called out.

“I’m planning on proposing to Eliza this weekend.”

“WHAT?!” I gasped before bringing my voice down to just above a whisper. “Are you serious?”

“I wanted to wait until she finished school before we moved forward,” he shrugged a shoulder, “but I’m not getting any younger and I want to be married to her before I die of old age.”

I cackled, but he didn’t appear amused in the least. “Shit, sorry!” Though I loved him for my best friend and had known him since I was younger and oblivious, he was still terrifying. I wasn’t sure I’d ever truly be comfortable enough around him to fully relax. “Well, I think it’s amazing! What did J say when you told him?”

“J?” He cocked his head.

“Sorry.” I rolled my eyes, trying to play it off. “James.”

His gaze narrowed ever so slightly, and I swore the corner of his lips twisted up before he corrected his reaction. “I’m taking him out for drinks tonight to tell him.”

“And if he objects?” Why couldn’t I just be agreeable instead of challenging the most frightening man on earth?

Appearing agitated, he opened his mouth to reply, but the phone ringing in the lobby called our attention away.

Thankful to have any reason to get out of that room, I shifted my weight. “I have to get that.”

He nodded once, then followed me into the hallway. “He might need you later tonight.”

I whirled around at the end of the hallway. “What?”

His back was already turned. He opened James’s office door, then closed it behind him.

JAMES

I’d invited Maddie to eat lunch with us, but she’d declined, saying she’d grab lunch elsewhere. She’d been avoiding me since I’d been messing with her all morning. The one time I didn’t was when Vincenzo said he wanted to speak to her alone about Gian.

It was evident he was already suspicious about things, and I didn’t want him to know what I was doing. He would have known if he hadn’t already. It was painful for me to admit my best friend was also a freak since he was dating my daughter, but it was the reality.

I saw the way he looked at Maddie when I pressed the toy’s button in my office. I wasn’t going to push my luck with it any further while they were here. Now, the office had been empty for about an hour, and I was feeling evil again. While finishing some notes on my laptop, my gaze drifted to the phone once again. I unlocked it and pressed the button. This time, I wasn’t going to stop.

I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally, the door sprung open, and Maddie moaned, hurling it closed behind her. “You son of a—”

“Watch your mouth, Madison.” I dragged the button up, watching liquid run down her legs onto her sexy black stilettos. “Come here.”

“I.. fuck! I can’t! James, p-pleaseee! I need c…omplete relief! I cannn’t walk!”

“You need to be quiet.” Watching her struggle was making my cock stir. “My employees will hear you on the other end of the building.”

I closed my laptop and slid it to the side of my desk. The moment she shivered, I cut the toy off entirely and she let out a loud breath. Her face flushed. She marched angrily toward me, reaching up under her skirt.

“You were told to leave it in.”

“I’m not playing your game anymore!” She scoffed, coming to a stop in front of me. “My clit’s hurting. My pussy’s hurting. My—”

I grabbed her wrist, squeezing. “Leave. It. In.”
