I placed her in front of me, escorting her out of the ballroom. The minute we were alone in the hallway, we both let out a breath.

“What the hell was that?” she hissed.

“Not here,” I matched her tone.

We marched side by side through the lobby and outside to the valet. I handed him the ticket, and we waited quietly while he brought my Mercedes to a stop in front of us. I opened the passenger door and Maddie slid in. Hurrying around to the other side, I got in, tipping the valet on the way.

“Okay,” she threw her hands up, “why the hell did she show up?!”

Glaring ahead, I gripped the steering wheel tightly and put my other hand on her thigh. “I really didn’t think she’d have the guts to, but that was uncomfortable.”

“So, what now?” she asked, circling my hand with her thumb.

“I’m taking you to your place to pack a bag. We’re staying somewhere tonight, and no one will find us.”

Her grip tightened.

Glancing over, I saw her staring at me. “I have a bag in the car and everything I need in the room. I slept in there a few times over the past several months.”

“Did you ever text me while you were there?”

Stroking her leg, I nodded. “But much to your disappointment, I didn’t jerk off while talking to you.”

She let out a small giggle, looking out her window.

The door closed, locking behind us. I dropped our duffle bags on the floor. She remained still, her hands clasped in front of her. I wanted to talk to her about tonight, but that’d break my rule of anything outside existing and we’d already broken it last time too. The room was our only escape from the judgement we’d soon face. The place where she and I could live freely as whatever I wanted us to be.

I switched on the blue lights, dimming them just enough to give the room an ambient glow. Then, I started the music and pointed the remote at the shades. Removing my jacket, I laid it over the chair arm. “Come here,” I murmured as the shadows disappeared and the nighttime light shone in.

She sashayed over, averting her gaze to the floor.

“Tonight,” I pressed my fingers under her chin, lifting her gaze to mine, “I want you to watch me drive you absolutely insane. I want you to memorize the way I make you feel.”

She wet her lips as I slid my palm to the back of her head, pulling her mouth to mine, and closing my eyes. Pressing her palms to my chest, she stopped me. I blinked, meeting her gaze.

“Do you want to talk about tonight?”

“Madison.”

“Yes, James?” she replied tauntingly.

I squinted. “Don’t be a brat.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She pinned her bottom lip between her teeth.

“I’m warning you, I’m not in the mood for games right now.”

She reached for my tie, releasing the knot, letting it hang loose on my neck. I wanted her to undress me more than anything, but I wanted her trained to perfection, and she needed to be punished. I pushed her hands away. Smiling, she trailed her nail down the front of my shirt.

“Kneel!” I barked.

Gasping, she dropped to her knees instantly with a thud. I was sure it hurt, but she didn’t wince. Striding to the St. Andrew’s cross, I rotated to face her.

“Because you want to be a brat, eyes to the floor and crawl to me. Am I clear? Or do I need to drag you over here by your fucking hair?”

She paused, grinning at the floor before she obeyed, creeping toward me like a good girl.
