“What happened to you? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“I just sent James photos of myself in a bikini!” I marched past him toward the bedroom.
“So?” He followed. “What’s the big deal?”
Tossing my phone on the middle of the bed and the towel on the floor, I sighed. “James DILF Whitman?!”
He shrugged. “And? You guys text nonstop. I thought you’d be sexting or even fucking by now, anyway.”
“First of all,” I squinted, resting my fists on my hips, “we don’t sext, and second of all—”
DING!
He laughed. “Uh ohhh.”
“You’re in the Mafia, so just fucking use your gun to shoot me and hide my body.” Groaning, I scuffed into the bathroom, ready to shower.
“Aren’t you going to read it?” he called out, ignoring the dramatic statement.
I poked my head into the bedroom to see him holding my phone.
“Of course not!”
“Then I’ll read it.”
“The fuck you will!” I sped over, trying my best to snatch it from his hand but he towered over me, and held it in the air.
An evil grin spread across his face. “Ah ah,” He gasped theatrically, lifting his palm. “Wait!”
I froze. “What?!”
He pointed the screen at my face. “Anddd unlocked.”
“Tony, damnit,” I growled, using the nickname I rarely called him. “Give me my phone.”
Turning his back, he inhaled a sharp breath. “Oh fuck, Maddie!”
“What?!”
He twisted back around. “He said never to text him that shit again.”
“WHAT?!”
“Joking.” He jeered, laying the phone in my hand. “I didn’t even read it, ya paranoid freak.”
“Asshole!” I snickered.
“Just read it. What’s the worst it can say?”
“Exactly that!”
“Doubt it.” He lifted a hand to his chin. “The dude stares at you all the time.” He turned to the door. “I’m going to get our cups off the beach while you get ready.”
“Okay.” I trudged back into the bathroom. Clutching my phone against my chest, I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath, terrified of his actual reply.
DING!
The tone reminded me of the unread text. Reluctantly, I pulled it away, lowering my gaze to the screen. I opened his message.
