“Yes, you will.” He winked before I turned to Tyler. “So happy you’re back.”

Pursing his lips, he nodded. “We’ll see.”

LUKE

As Jade exited, Ian propped back on the newly installed custom bar, crossing his arms. “I’m glad you’re here tonight because I wanted to speak to you about something.”

“What?” Tyler replied, leaning against the back of one of the black leather couches in the middle small sitting area.

“I was just telling her,” he lifted his chin at Giovanna, “I want you present for every contract and NDA signed for Luxe. I’m not taking any chances. Even with our friends.”

“She can’t just handle it?” He rolled his eyes. “Wasn’t it her job in L.A.?”

“Yes,” she chimed in, “it was.”

He shot her a glance before turning back to Ian. “Good, then she’s capable and?—”

“It’s not up for negotiation, Ty,” Ian cut him off. “This shit’s illegal and risky already, as it is. I’m not taking chances.”

“Fine,” he sighed, giving in. “Whatever you want. When do we start?”

“We’ll have a meeting in the morning to go over final details for the launch, then I need you guys to go over the details of it tomorrow night,” Ian continued. “You can bring the kids up if you want.”

“I’ll see how they feel and let you know.”

Ian bowed his head subtly before he focused his attention on Giovanna. “You need to change and get out on the floor.”

“Can I change up my set tonight?”

Ian cocked a brow. “I’m going to regret asking this, but why are you asking me and not Amber or Jade?”

She glanced between Tyler and me, then rested her fists on her side, popping her hip. “You’re the big boss and I need your permission for this one.”

Ian rolled his tongue over his bottom lip, shaking his head. “Is it worth my yes?”

“It is, I promise.”

“I don’t trust you,” he countered, causing Tyler and me to shift our weight as we watched the exchange like a tennis match.

“I need you to trust why I won’t tell you, too,” she took a deep breath, “at least for the next couple of hours.”

Ian pushed off the bar, taking a step toward her. “If you fuck me over?—”

“Mr. Knight,” she took a step back, “I can’t tell you this one, but when it happens, you’ll know. Just be watching out, please.”

What the fuck is she doing? I trusted her and still did, but she wasn’t earning any points with Ian by being vague and she certainly wasn’t making me look good right now. Ian didn’t like sassy women. He definitely didn’t like women he barely knew disrespecting him. He hated being out of the loop. But I trusted her, and now I could say that with confidence. Over the time she’d been in Boston, she’d more than earned my respect and trust.

She’d recently moved out and into her own apartment in Jenna’s old building. Ironically, next door to Jenna’s old apartment where a guy lived, she couldn’t shut up about. We’d yet to meet him, but she only ever referred to him as the Eye Candy.

Tyler scoffed. “Anyway, I’m going to the bar. Good luck with whatever she’s got going on,” he called out as he rounded the corner, disappearing.

Ian narrowed his eyes on Giovanna, ready to put her in her place, but I spoke up. “I trust you.”

She offered me a sincere look. “I have to go change and get ready. Keep your eyes peeled.” She grabbed her Louis Vuitton duffle bag off the top of the bar on her way out.

“If that bitch screws me over,” Ian snarled, “I’m going to send her back to her father in a hot pink body bag to match her hair.”

“Give her a chance,” I muttered as we exited Luxe and made our way to the showroom.
