My eyes expanded to the size of saucers, and I snapped my gaze to Luke’s, then Tyler’s. “That’s one of our mugs!”

“Holy shit,” Luke breathed.

I gasped. “That means—” my voice trailed off.

Tyler smirked. “You and Jenna were right. We have a spy.”

“Does Ian know?” Luke asked.

“It wasn’t until I gathered all the papers together after you dropped them that I saw it. When you guys walked out, I showed him to confirm before I came in here.” He lifted his chin toward the door. “He’s on the phone with Nico now.”

My phone buzzed, ripping me from the conversation and I pulled it out, seeing Amber had sent me two texts.

Is everything good up there?

Gia’s going on soon.

I sighed. “I need to change and get downstairs. What should we do?”

Luke ran his fingers through his hair. “You dance. We’ll be watching everything.”

KNIGHT LIFE SPECIAL

LUKE

As my stunning girlfriend paraded confidently around the main stage, her body bare and glistening under the colorful lights and rain feature, I shifted my focus to the crowd. Giovanna sashayed up to our booth, sliding across from me next to Tyler. He squirmed uncomfortably, edging closer to Ian on his other side. To any outsider, it may have seemed like he was simply making room, but I knew better. For some reason, he didn’t seem to like her.

Amber followed shortly after, gracefully approaching our table with a black tray in hand. “Mr. Knight, table one is asking for the Knight Life Special.”

“Tell them we’re out,” he replied.

Table one in VIP was where some of Ian’s associates were keeping a watchful eye on the crowd. With their prime location near the stage, they had a perfect view of the entire club. The Knight Life Special was code for, ‘Any sign of the enemy’; a discreet way of asking without arousing suspicion from nearby paying customers who may overhear. ‘We’re out,’ meant there was no threat detected. But if one of us said, ‘We only have…’ followed by a color, it indicated what clothing the target was wearing. It was all part of strategic surveillance.

Amber offered a subtle nod. “Yes, sir,” she replied before moving to table two, taking their refill orders.

Trina spun and flipped on the pole directly in front of us, causing too much of a distraction for my tastes. Tonight, I found her performance more agitating than alluring. My frustration only grew when an all too familiar voice screeched from the steps.

“Let me by!” Britney’s shrill voice cut through the music, causing Ian and I to exchange an annoyed glance. Of all nights, it wasn’t the night his ex needed to show up.

When she made eye contact with me and began waving frantically, my jaw tightened. Shit. I turned to Ian once again, who was already fuming, his attention solely focused on the stage. He pressed his finger to his earpiece.

Without hesitation, I got up, marching over to Britney, placing a hand on the bouncer’s shoulder to signal for him to let me through. Confused, he moved aside. She stepped toward me, but I held up a hand to stop her.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

Leaning in as close as she could, she pleaded over the blaring music, “I need to see Ian.”

I snorted, crossing my arms tightly against my chest. “Brit, you need to go.”

Huffing in frustration, she dug into her bag. Instinctively I reached for my gun handle. But instead of a weapon, she pulled out her phone.

“Calm down.” She swiped at it for a moment before shoving it into my face. “Look!”

My eyes widened at what I saw on the screen. “Fuck.” Quickly glancing back over my shoulder at Ian, who was still scanning the crowd, I turned back to Britney and snatched the phone from her hand. Squeezing her wrist, I began pulling her toward the side exit. “Come on.”
