“Hi. Oh my gosh, it’s so good to meet you,” she piped, and I grunted when she completely abandoned the handshake and hugged me. She got me hard for a little thing, and there was no question this girl was a Reed. She hugged like a bear, and her brother looked like one. She froze. “Sorry. I get excited.”

Almost instantly, she let go, and I waved off what she said. “It’s cool.”

“I just feel like I know you, I guess. I’ve heard a lot,” she stated, and I was sure she had. From what I understood, the Legacy kids were really close, and I could imagine it was no different with Bow.

Wolf caught my attention again, and at least this time, he was aware no one cared for him to be a part of the conversation. He turned back around, his head on the seat, and I shook mine.

Sloane noticed, and both she and Bow frowned.

“I’m glad you’re still coming despite what an ass my demon of a twin has been to you,” Sloane shot, audible. She tossed the words directly in Wolf’s direction, and if he heard, he gave no reaction to them. He might not since he had his earbuds in before.

I had a feeling Sloane wouldn’t have cared regardless, and I sat back. “I guess I decided I’m not going to give any more of my energy away.” I’d given him too much, way too much.

I noticed a slight shift of Wolf’s head, and maybe he was listening.

You don’t care if he is.

Eventually, I would believe that to be true, and I knew I would, the longer I stood my ground. Ares Mallick didn’t own me. Even if we both believed he did for a semester.

My throat clenched again, and Sloane and Bow both nodded at me.

“Definitely get that,” Sloane said, her lips turned down. “And I’ve said it before, but I am sorry. So sorry for how I acted when we first met. How I treated you…” She eyed her brother over her shoulder. “I’m definitely regretting a few things.”

She wasn’t the only one, and the sound of the bus amplified in that next moment. Bow’s brother, Thatcher, had two large duffels on his meaty shoulders, and Wells pulled up with a couple behind him. Thatcher had to turn sideways just to get into the aisle, and both boys had to lower their heads to navigate the area.

“Incoming!” Thatcher announced before charging down the aisle and pretty much barreling through his tiny sister.

“Thatcher!” she squealed just as Sloane got the back of her coat. She pulled Bow and herself into the nearest seat, just missing the football player.

“You asshole!” Sloane barked, but all Thatcher did was laugh.

He angled around. “What? I warned you guys.” With a wink, he started to load the bags up top, but Sloane had made her way into the aisle and launched herself in his direction.

Thatcher dropped his bags then, nothing but laughter on his lips, and Sloane would have gotten to him if not for Wells. Quick, he put himself between both of them, and Sloane seethed in his direction.

“Whoa now, princess,” Wells stated, his hands up and guarding his friend. He was lucky he had height on him, or otherwise, Sloane would have punched over him. Wells laughed, dodging strikes. “He’s sorry.”

“Like fuck he is.” Sloane managed to get a sock into Thatcher’s arm. He had a thick puffer coat on, and with his size, I doubted her small fist hurt.

Even still, he made a show about being injured, rubbing his arm. Wolf was completely turned around in his chair again. He started to get up (I assumed to stop everything), but Bow de-escalated the situation when she tugged Sloane’s arm.

“He’s not worth it,” she said, sticking her tongue at him. It was literally something a sister would do to her brother, which made him laugh. This got Thatcher another punch from Sloane, but he chose not to do anything about it.

Wolf faced the front again after he did, which pretty much confirmed he’d been about to do something about the chaos back here.

And you care because?

Since I didn’t, I stayed in my own corner. Thatcher loaded his bags, and Wells did the same across the aisle from him.

“Watch out, squeak,” Wells said, apparently referring to Bow who was in his way. Her face shot up in color, and when she didn’t move, his eyes lifted. “Earth to squeak? You want me to avoid hitting you in the head with these or not?”

This guy’s bedside manner could use some work, but I wouldn’t say I was surprised. I had my own run-ins with both him and her brother. These Legacy guys were a special breed, and no one drove that point home more than a certain someone in the front seat.

Wolf seemed to be keeping toward his own corner at the present, but it seemed Bow didn’t need any help when Sloane stepped in. Sloane smirked, her arms crossed. “Hey, Wells?”

“Yep?” He was stowing the bags at this point, because Bow had sat down. Currently, he was forcing her to look at his abs when his short coat crept up and exposed them.

Sloane cocked her head. “Fuck off.”
