Nah, I definitely wasn’t doing that. She’d have to fucking make me, and I’d more than love the struggle. My head cocked. “A word of advice, sweetheart. I’m the last person you want to make your enemy. Now, I gave you some advice the other day, and I have to say, you’re shitting on it.”

I pressed against her tight little body, and my hand would be all up in that peach outfit of hers if we were alone.

Perhaps, Aspen felt that and me when I tucked my cock up against her. Her eyes flashed, and she attempted to knee me in my shit, but I was quick. I lifted her away as if she was little more than a rag doll, and her irises blazed like hot coals in my direction.

“You’re insane, and you did this to your fucking self.” She managed to work her arm away and me when she shoved at my chest again. I went willingly, but it was cute she thought she could move me. She put a polished nail in my chest. “You will back the fuck off or your dad will know all about what a stalker you clearly still are. I gave him a nice little spiel about how you helped me out with that referral, but I can turn that shit on its head in two seconds.”

She thought she’d found my Achilles heel by getting my dad involved, and that made sense. I’d made a lot of drama for my dad to fix back when Aspen and I were kids, and anyone with eyes today could see I respected my father. I’d do anything not to create a headache for him.

What a smart little snowflake.

That was where her smarts ended. My dad wouldn’t always be here to keep me in check. I got her by the hip. “Better hide all up behind my dad’s security, darling. It’d be dumb to find yourself alone anytime soon, and I’m not referring to your threatening fucking letters.”

Her eyes flashed again, a familiar flare especially when I got that ass of hers in my hand. I gripped a nice full squeeze, and I chuckled when her next move was to dig a stiletto into my patent leather shoe. Yeah, that shit hurt a little bit, but the satisfying growl she made before shoving me off her dulled the pain.

“I have your dad’s company on speed dial, asshole,” she said, ramming her little shoulder into me. I think this was supposed to get me to move out of her way, and when I didn’t, I chuckled at the red tint that flushed her brown cheeks. Her jaw shifted. “Stay the fuck away from me.”

That sounded like nothing but an invitation as far as I was concerned. I pouted my lips at her, a promise when I kissed the air at her.

Her look of disgust barked more laughter out of me, but I allowed both it and her to leave since I was waiting for my dad.

“Sorry about that, son,” Dad said upon his return, and I waved him off.

“It’s fine, sir. Completely.” It was. I knew he’d rather be here than dealing with any kind of business. My dad could be kind of a hard-ass and extremely tough on my ass in particular, but I always gave him a reason.

Again, I was trying not to do that today, and his obvious questions came barely after the bread hit the table.

“So Aspen Davis,” he said, eyeing me across the table, and my heart kicked up its beats. Dad rested his hands on the tablecloth. “I really was surprised to hear from her, and even more surprised when she said the referral came from you. She said you two ran into each other at school.”

As I didn’t know exactly what snowflake told him, I kept my cool, making myself. I sat back. “Yeah. It was crazy.”

“Crazy?”

I nodded. “I mean, it was awkward, but all that was a long time ago.”

“It was, but I’m sure you’d understand why she’d still want nothing to do with you. You were a kid and made a mistake, but…” His dark eyes were intense. They were my sister’s eyes despite the color, but also mine. Bow and I both got my mom’s color, but that was as far as that went. When people looked at her and me, they saw my dad. Especially me since my dad and I could be twins. “You two really have moved forward? I’m glad if that’s the case, but still I am surprised to hear it.”

He should be surprised because Aspen Davis and I were still very much on opposite sides of the proverbial battle line. My father couldn’t know that though.

“We’re cool,” I said, making it harder for my father to spot bullshit when my answers were less than three words.

“And this won’t be a problem for you? You and her going to the same school together?” Dad leaned forward. “You can see why I’m a little concerned considering your reasons back then for doing what you did.”

The general consensus had been that I liked Aspen, and I did so much that I’d done some stupid shit. I stalked her, then went extra psycho and kidnapped her. I had miles and miles of therapy notes that detailed those very facts, and I had no intention of creating any revisions to the notes.

“I was a kid, Dad,” I said, passing that shit off too. “I had a crush. Nothing more.”

I wasn’t sure if my dad believed me, but he also wasn’t great about getting deeply involved with my personal life. He loved me. I knew that, but needless to say, I went to my mom for all the heavy conversations growing up.

“Your gram asked about you today,” Dad said, only proving my point that he and I didn’t do heavy talks. My chest squeezed, and he fidgeted. He cleared his throat. “She said you came to see her recently.”

I had and driven over two hours to do it. My hometown, Maywood Heights, wasn’t an easy trek, but I did it. She needed me.

I peered above my Coke. “Don’t you mean she asked about you?”

I didn’t know why I said that. It wasn’t helpful and certainly not making things easy for my old man. I was going through shit, but he was going through mega shit.

I mean, this was his mom.
