“I don’t get it.” The words were a whisper from her lips, her eyes still closed. Her face moved into my touch, and I cradled her cheek more. She touched my hand. “Why didn’t you just talk to me? Back then, why didn’t you just talk to me?”

Her eyes opened, and I scanned them. They appeared so sad again.

“If you liked me…” Her voice cracked a little, and she touched my face now. She did, and that shit felt like fucking heaven. Her brow touched mine. “If you did, I would have listened. I would have seen this. I would have seen you. Who you are…”

Her words flared something in my insides. She licked her lips, then licked mine.

A sound rolled in my chest. “Snow?—”

I moved to close the distance between our mouths, but she denied me. She guided my mask down over my eyes. I’d moved it up when we came upstairs.

My head literally spun when she did that, breaking the trance I had on her mouth, and my cock was so hard. I thought that shit would break off in my pants it was so stiff.

Her cheeks tinted, her brown skin flush.

“Keep this on,” she said, rising to her feet. She tucked her stuff away in her pockets, and those ended up being the last words she said to me because in the next moment…

She ran.

CHAPTER

TWENTY-TWO

Thatcher

I caught her in seconds. I was out of breath, hard, and very aware of what a bad idea all this was.

But that hadn’t stopped me from chasing her.

Again, I’d done so in seconds. I had her delicate wrists in my hands as I husked out breath over her trembling lips.

I wasn’t even tired.

It was pure adrenaline that had me this way, and the fact that we were wearing all this Regency shit only added to the game. We were doing such impure shit in what was considered a pure era.

“Snowflake…” I scanned her dark eyes, fully aware we hadn’t done anything yet, but I had a feeling I knew where this was going. I’d chased her before, after all. My nose dragged along her neck. “Snow.”

She quaked beneath me, her tight curves hugging me all through my costume. We were on the floor in the middle of the hallway.

I’d caught her between two suits of armor.

We were all alone up here beneath flickering candlelight, and I had a choice. I could honor our agreement. We could be cool. We could be friends, and I wouldn’t create any more beef with my friends. I could walk away, give her space.

Instead, I gripped her wrists, bringing her body closer. I closed my eyes by her ear. I had something important to say, and she was going to fucking hear me.

“You don’t leave this floor,” I instructed, and I swear to God, I physically felt the blood pump beneath her skin, her neck warm under my open lips. “You can go anywhere you want, but you don’t leave this floor.”

We were alone up here, and no one was about to fucking see what I was about to do to her.

She blinked, and I wasn’t sure she understood what I was telling her.

But then I said what I had next.

“You get five minutes to hide, run,” I said, those dark lashes of hers flickering again. I bit at them. “I’ll even close my eyes before I come find you.”

And I would find her. I’d find her every time. I didn’t care how big the fucking castle was or how many rooms were on this floor.

I’d find her.
