“They could park a car bomb outside of our clubhouse,” Griz said.

“Or at the hospital, or courthouse.”

“Yeah, fuck those cartel guys, man,” Devil said, nodding. “Good call, Pony.”

“Like I said, I had to. The reason I came to this MC was because you guys won’t allow collateral damage. I saw too much of that shit overseas, man, I won’t see it happen here.”

“Right,” Devil said. “Collateral.”

“He means innocent bystanders, Devil.”

“I know what it means, man! I’m Condor!” Devil said.

“Jesus, with that code name,” Griz said, waving all of that off. “We need to talk about what just happened.”

“What do you mean?” Devil said.

“Things turned too ugly, too fast,” Griz said. “As soon as I said that all we wanted were the guns, it got dark quick.”

“They had that set up as a contingency ahead of time, clearly,” Pony said. “If we didn’t say yes to everything, they’d already decided that they would take us out.”

“Oh, right, that explains what those three goons were whispering into the radio to each other in Spanish,” Devil said. “Get ready, and I’m ready. Shit like that.”

“You speak Spanish?” Griz said.

“I am Spanish. Well, part Spanish.”

Griz scratched at his head. “Really?”

“I don’t know,” Devil said. “Maybe.”

“Whatever,” Griz said with a sigh. “The point is…”

“You think Ripper set us up?” Pony said.

“That’s a heavy accusation, prospect,” Devil said.

“I’m sorry if I’m stepping outside my bounds, but…”

“No, he’s right to bring it up, Devil,” Griz said.

“What do you mean?” Devil said.

“He mentioned Ripper by name. Said he thought we wouldn’t go through with it, then said something about having to take us out of the game or something.”

“Still,” Devil said. “That’s kind of circumstantial. If you want to bring something like that to the club, you’d better have something solid.”

“Yeah,” Griz agreed.

“Besides, I don’t believe it,” Devil said. “Ripper’s like… old school, man. Been around forever. You really think he’d turn on the club?”

“Not the club,” Griz said. “Me and my dad, though, maybe. Get us out of the way so he can run things. Like you said, though, that’s a heavy accusation.”

“Right,” Devil said. “You’d need serious proof.”

Griz thought about that for a second. More and more, it was looking like Ripper was behind what was going on lately, or at least he had set them up tonight. But he needed to be sure if he was going to confront a brother member of the MC.

“Hang on,” he said, getting out his phone. “I have an idea.”
