Page 46 of Griz Rides Tall

She looked at him. “You’re scared of needles, but you weren’t worried about getting shot in the chest with a shotgun?”

“Not really,” he said. “I was worried about you.”

That hit her right in the feels. It was unfair; she’d just survived a near death experience, and she had a half a bottle of wine in her, maybe more. Nothing about her thoughts or emotions could be trusted right now. If her judgement was a person looking to drive home right now, she’d take away their keys.

Besides, those abs were right there, and the next thing she knew, her traitorous fingertips were touching him, confirming for her eyes just how hard and firm his muscles really were.

“What are you doing?” Griz said.

“What?” Becca said, withdrawing her traitorous hand as quickly as a child caught stealing a cookie from the jar. “Um. We should probably, um, I mean, we need to check and see if… your ribs are broken.”

That sounded right to her. She was pretty sure she’d overhead something to that effect, from her sister maybe, or maybe just another one of those action movies she’d halfway slept through on random dates over the years.

“We do?” Griz said.

“Yes,” Becca nodded earnestly. “That is important. Ribs are important.”

Griz nodded. “Okay.”

“Right,” Becca said. “I guess I’ll just…”

She began to press her fingertips on his tight torso, feeling around, trying to figure out what to do. She had no idea how to check for a broken rib. She wasn’t even one hundred percent sure she knew where his ribs were. She’d just said the first thing that popped into her head, and now, she was scrambling to cover up for it, and the more she ran her hands across Griz’s muscled torso, the more confused she got.

Becca wasn’t even sure she was in complete control of her hands at this point. They seemed to just wander around, squeezing Griz like she was checking to see if he was a ripe piece of fruit.

But she couldn’t help herself; somehow the situation had led her into this, and now she couldn’t keep from indulging her curiosity. She never got to put her hands on men like this, not built like this, like he was carved out of wood. If she’d have known that Griz was smuggling a body like this under his flannel shirts, she might’ve had a lot more patience for him from the get-go.

Just as she was starting to feel like she was pushing her luck, like she was getting a little too obvious with her Griz-handling, something moved out of the corner of her eye. Something low and sitting in the center of Griz’s lap.

She didn’t even try to hide her look this time. And this time, there was no doubt, no dick investigations necessary. Little Griz was waking up, stretching his legs, and straightening out, straining the poor fabric of Griz’s jeans to the limit.

Griz caught her look and shrugged, surprisingly shyly. “Sorry.”

Becca shook her head, fumbled for words, couldn’t find any, and gave up trying.

“I can’t help it,” Griz said. “You’re so pretty. You look kind of like Scarlet Johannsen.”

She had to laugh a little at that. “You need to get your eyes checked.”

“I’m twenty-twenty,” he said.

“What?”

“My optometrist said I’m twenty-twenty.”

She had to know. “You have an optometrist?”

“Kate made me get a physical. Eye doctor, too.”

Physical? Becca thought.Did he check you for Gigantis Penis Syndrome?

What she said, was, “Yeah, well, maybe if Scarlett Johannsen gained fifteen pounds and her boobs fell off.”

“I think you’re beautiful,” he said, and it appeared that Little Griz agreed, because the bulge in his pants kept shifting and straightening and getting larger.

Just how big is it going to get? she couldn’t help but wonder, and when she finally dragged her eyes away from it, she found she was sitting even closer to Griz than before, barely inches away from him. Not only that, but her hand was still on his chest, not even pretending to check for a broken rib, not that Becca ever had any idea how to do that in the first place.

She was suddenly aware of her heartbeat, fast and quick and thumping, and now her throat was a little dry and there was a flutter dancing around the middle of her that wouldn’t go away.Oh my God, she thought.I am so turned on right now. By the Wookie? Is that possible?
