“I hear you. So you like the speedsters?”

“Here we go,” Piper said, throwing her hands up in the air.

“What?”

“You’re going to make fun of me now, like the rest of the MC?” Piper said. “Yes, yes, I know it’s not a Harley, Pony. Piper and her little crotch rocket, blah blah blah.”

“I wasn’t going to say that,” Pony said.

“No?”

“No. I like racing bikes too.”

Piper eyed him carefully, as if not quite believing him. “Really?”

“Really,” he said.

“But you ride a Harley.”

“Most of the time. But I also have an Aprilla.”

“Your secret is safe with me. So you’re a closet speed demon?”

“Guilty.”

“It’s always the quiet ones, who are the adrenaline junkies.”

Pony said, “You’re not quiet.”

“Touché,” Piper said, then added coyly, “Maybe we’ll have to race sometime.”

“Actually, now that you mention it…”

“What?”

“I found out about this group that meets up about a half hour, forty-five minutes away from here. They do races.”

“I’m guessing that it’s not exactly an above board, sanctioned racing track?”

“You guess correctly. Street racing. Nothing above board about it.”

“And you’re thinking about checking it out?”

“I am.Interested?”

She looked him over, seeming like she was doing some calculations in her head. Finally, she gave him a smile.

“Illegal street bike racing at night through the back roads of rural Pennsylvania?” she said. “Sounds like fun.”

The first thing Piper thought was, she was definitely not dressed for a date.

She was dressed for a motorcycle race… close fitting red leather pants and jacket, both with protective plastic inserts built in to keep her from serious injury if the worst should happen and she crashed at high speed. Gloves with more protective plastic on the back of the hands and knuckles, as well.

Now it was time to debate accessories. Specifically, gun or no gun?

As tightly as her outfit hugged her body, she wasn’t sure she could realistically conceal a gun anywhere. Not to mention, the odds of her needing a gun at a street race were practically zero. She was more likely to get struck by lightning than need it.
