“Are all in agreement to patch Pony in as a full member of this club?” Boomer said.

Roars, shouts, and yells of approval shook the air until Pony could feel it in his toes.

Wincing, and with great effort, Boomer struggled out of his wheelchair and to his feet. He wobbled for a second, unsteady, but settled himself after a moment and held out his hand.

“What say you, Pony?” he asked. “Are you ready to ride or die with the brotherhood?”

Pony had never been so close to tears in his life. All his trials, all his efforts, all finally had bought him a home here.

It was what he’d been looking for ever since he’d left the Army. A place to fit in. A place where he truly belonged, where he was accepted for who and what he was, where he had people he could count on and who could count on him. A place where he mattered.

“I am,” he finally said, his voice almost cracking with the emotion that filled him, and he took the patch held toward him by Boomer.

“This brother is dry,” Boomer said loudly.

“Then let’s fix that!” Wyatt shouted.

With that, all of the brothers shook their bottles of beer and began to spray Pony in a great torrent. Pony laughed, his first full laugh in a long time, and let the rain of beer fall over him, soaking his hair, his clothes, feeling like it was soaking through his skin down into his soul.

It was like being baptized, reborn into a new family.

Each of the brothers in turn grabbed him, hugged him, shook his hand, and said, “Welcome, brother,” until only Boomer was left.

“Well done, Pony,” Boomer said, shaking Pony’s hand, using his free one to continue to steady his balance against the wheelchair. “Welcome home.”

Pony felt every emotion he owned swelling up inside of him, threatening to burst out of his chest. All his life, he’d beensearching for a place to belong. First the Army, which ended up not being the family he’d been looking for.

Now, now, he’d finally found a place and people he could call his own. That he could call home. They would do anything for him, and in this moment, he realized, he would do anything for them.

He was finally home.

Although Piper had his number saved in her phone under “Dad”, Agent Harris was anything BUT her father.

He’d started their secret meeting off pleasantly enough, asking about Carly.

“How’s your sister holding up?” he’d said.

“She’s all right.”

“Is she?”

“She’s terrified,” Piper said with a shrug. “Dealing with it by eating all of the snacks she can get her hands on.”

“I can imagine. You said she’s never been in trouble before?”

“Squeaky clean doesn’t even come close to describing her. There is no way those pills were hers.”

“Has to be some sort of screw up by the locals,” Harris said. “Don’t worry. With the extra juice we get from busting this MC, we’ll be able to throw some weight at her case and make it disappear.”

“I hope so. She’s half the reason I’m doing this.”

“Half?”

“You know what I saw in Juarez,” Piper said. “You sent me there.”

“That’s right. So what have you found?”
