He jerks as if taken off guard, turning towards me, his tattoos contorting with every stiff movement. Yet, I don’t move from my casual stance.

“I gotta know. She’s family and she’s been hurt too many times before. So…now that things aren’t at all professional, I have to know what your plans are.”

He eyes me for a long moment, face stoic and not showing an ounce of whatever is running through his brain, until he finally speaks.

“She’s mine.”

Shit, I forgot he had a British accent.

“Okay, caveman. Let’s try again. Because Kat doesn’t belong to anyone.” I will not shrink away, no matter how scary his glare is. I use an old interrogation technique and just stare at him silently. It’s supposed to make the person being questioned so uncomfortable that they have to talk and fill the silence, but I’m not sure it’s going to work with this one.

Nope.

A full ninety seconds go by–yes, I counted–and I’m starting to feel like a suspect in an interrogation room.

“Oh come on, man. Give me something here.” I swipe my hand through my hair before shoving it back in my pocket. He grunts, turning back to the bunnies, his gentle handling a stark contrast to his brutish nature.

“I like her. She likes animals.” Well six words. I’ll consider it a win. But still…

“And?”

“Fine.” He finally growls almost angrily before putting down a baby bunny and rising to his full, towering height to face me down. “I like her. She’s the only woman who has ever made me want to explore something deeper. When I look at her, all I want to do is hold her in my arms. I picture myself making her coffee in the morning. Listening to her bitch about having a bad day at work. She makes me want to cuddle on a couch and watch whatever girly movies she likes, or listen to her ask me if her ass looks fat in a new pair of jeans.”

He practically rips his man bun out as he jerks at his hair out of habit, turning and pacing in a five feet area as if a caged animal.

“I want to go buy her tampons. Or adopt a dog, or two, or five with her. These are the things she makes me think about.” He turns and narrows a menacing glare on me, but this time I don’t even flinch. “Women are simple. Easy to avoid or turn away. Kat is something more. It’s like from the moment I first saw her, she burrowed into my chest and set up a nest.” He jams his thumb over his heart as if to punctuate exactly where she set up home. “I’ve never wanted to settle down. I’ve never fallen in love. But now? I’d gladly live a domesticated, suburban life if it meant I could do it with her!”

And now he’s yelling. If this were a cartoon, there’d be steam coming out of his ears.

“And what about the other two?” He jerks as if struck before answering a whole lot calmer. Like a deadly calm.

“What about them?”

“If they feel the same way. If Kat likes them too? What are you going to do?”

He grunts, but his gaze glazes over as if he’s now somewhere far away. Well, that’s my cue.

“Anyways. I gotta go. See ya later!” I turn and stride from the room, a muffled yell following my retreat.

“What did you mean too?”

I chuckle, picking up my pace to shake Emrys off my tail and pull out my phone to move on to my next target. Ignoring the messages from Kat, I send out a mass Sharpe alert to the extended family. It doesn’t take long at all for me to find out he’s at the resort gym and I make a beeline there. Throwing open the double doors, I scan the room full of top tier exercise equipment until I find him at the free weights.

Jesus Christ.

The old man is cut. Now that, I was not expecting.

Snapping a quick photo before he notices me, I send it to Kat with a text attached saying: target two acquired. She’s going to kill me. But, eh, Annabelle and I will have a great laugh about it later.

Without any preamble, I glide up to Wyatt and take a seat on a bench nearby.

“Wyatt. My man! I got a question for you.” A clang of weights hitting the padded floor follows my question and he uses a towel to wipe the sweat off of his face before turning to give me his full attention.

“I have an answer.” His gaze is wary but open, and I internally sigh in relief.

This is going to be so much easier than Emrys.

“What are your intentions with Kathryn?” His brows curl up, gaze unfocusing for a moment before a smile lights up his features. Weird. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen him genuinely and openly smile.
