Nine months later

As the final buzzer sounds, signaling Frosty Fury Falcon’s victory, the entire arena erupts into a frenzy of cheers and applause. My eyes lock on Flynn as he skates toward the bench, looking as hot as ever.

After his injury last season, he worked super hard to get back on the ice. The fact that he led his team to victory today shows that he’s still as determined and hard-working as ever.

I can hardly believe I’m now engaged to one of the country’s most famous hockey players. Flynn divides his time between Frosty Crest and his time on the road with the team. It’s a lot of energy and a lot of flights, but we make it work. We bought a cabin in the mountains where we can spend our days in absolute silence and solitude, without paparazzi appearing from behind every corner.

The attention from the press was something I had to get used to, as well as the rumors. There have been numerous articles about me being pregnant, but none of them were true. Technically, those stories would be true now, but my pregnancy is a secret Flynn and I guard like crazy. It’s early days still, and I want to keep it a family matter for as long as we can.

Flynn steps off the ice, and a wide grin spreads across his face as our eyes meet. Without hesitation, he makes his way to me.

“Hey, you,” he says. “How’s my favorite girl in the whole world doing?”

“Awesome.”

I wrap my arms around him and kiss him long and hard. I don’t care that our picture will be plastered all over the internet in a few minutes. I love my fiancé, and no one is going to stop me from kissing him senseless.

“Congratulations on tonight’s victory, Lucky Seventeen,” I tell him.

“I think we won because of you.”

“Me?” I laugh.

“You bet. When you’re around, everything is better, and everything goes easier.”

I grab his hockey shirt and pull him in for another kiss. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Holly.”

“Now, do you want to get out of here, Lucky Seventeen? I have something in mind to celebrate your victory. Something private,” I say with a cheeky grin.

“Are those doctor’s orders, Dr. Thompson?”

“You better believe it.”
