Pauline’s expression shifts from admiration to sympathy. “That’s awful, Holly. I had no idea.”

“Yeah, well, it’s ancient history now,” I reply, trying to brush off the painful memories. “But seeing him again brings it all back.”

“Does he know you had feelings for him back then?” she asks.

I shrug. “I guess? I never told him, but it was obvious.”

“To you maybe, but you know how oblivious guys can be about this stuff,” she says.

“It doesn’t matter now. I have no intention of ever getting involved with him again.”

“Getting involved with who now?” a familiar voice asks.

I swivel my head to see Flynn grinning at me from his hospital bed as a technician wheels him toward the elevator.

Our eyes meet, and I’m hit with a tidal wave of feelings and memories. All I see when I look at Flynn is the jock who used me for better grades. The guy who left me high and dry on prom night.

I square my shoulders and scoff. “Who I date or don’t is none of your business.”

He gives me a cheeky smile. “Maybe I’ll make it my business, Holly.”

He’ll what now? The fucking nerve on this guy!

“It’s Doctor Thompson to you,” I retort sharply before turning on my heel and walking away.

Chapter Three

Flynn

“Are you sure you want to stay at Frosty Creek Haven now that you’re crippled? We have a room you can use for as long as you need it,” Brody says as he drives me back to Frosty Crest.

I shift in my seat. It’s hard to find a comfortable position with my arm in a cast. “First of all, I’m not crippled. I have broken arm and a sprained ankle, that’s all. And while I do love your suggestion, I don’t want to be in the way.”

“You won’t be in the way, Flynn. Don’t be so stubborn,” he insists.

I arch an eyebrow. “Sure. You and Emily don’t do it every day then?”

“Do what every day?” my brother asks with a scowl.

“Wash each other’s hair.” I roll my eyes at him. “Come on, man, what do you think I mean? Have sex. You’re newlyweds. It’s not hard to put two and two together.”

He shakes his head and sighs. “You can be such a baby sometimes.”

I grin. “But am I right or not?”

“Yes, we have lots of sex,” he admits with a grumble.

“See? I was right. Besides, Emily’s about to give birth and probably wants some privacy. Hence why staying at Frosty Creek Haven is a better choice for me.”

“Suit yourself,” he mutters.

We spend the next ten minutes lost in our own thoughts until Brody clears his throat, breaking the silence. “’So, how’s the arm holding up?”

I glance down at the cast encasing my arm. “It’s okay. I’ll manage. The pain comes and goes but they gave me some painkillers that should take the worst of it away.”

“Did the doctor tell you how long you’ll have to recover?”

I nod, my thoughts immediately gravitating toward Holly. “The cast will have to stay on for about four weeks, but I should be able to start physical therapy soon. Hopefully, that’ll speed up the process.”
