The cleaning crew. Most establishments waited until everyone was gone for the day before coming in to clean. It must be a lot later than she thought. The midnight sun wasn’t the only thing that screwed her up. When she was with Ash and Piers, all time ceased to matter.

She quickly started to dress so she could get out of the cleaners’ way but picked up their conversation.

“There are condoms everywhere around the ranch. Why would she even make that mistake?”

“How did they even find out she was pregnant by a Boot Knocker?”

Sylvee froze with one foot in her jeans.

“Someone in town snitched. Didn’t you hear?”

“No, I didn’t. But with the head honchos here visiting, I’m worried about job security. They could shut this place down.”

“If the office worker was getting sex for free from the cowboys, who can blame her? Those guys are gorgeous, muscled gods.”

“Yeah, but now she’s in trouble. And so are all the cowboys—until they find out who knocked her up.”

“If she even knows which one it was.”

“Doesn’t matter. It’s against their contracts to not use condoms every single time, even with each other.”

Sylvee’s heart slammed against her ribs until she started to feel dizzy.

She yanked up her jeans, shoved her feet in her boots and rushed out. Her mind raced in ten different directions.

The only thing she knew for certain was that her lovers had violated their contracts.

For her.

Chapter Nine

When they all exited the spa, the scent of a bonfire carried on the breeze. Piers pulled in a deep breath, enjoying the smell he associated with good times.

“Smell that? The guys have a fire going.”

Ash sucked in a breath too. “Every time I smell a fire, I think of all those summer nights we spent in your parents’ back yard, watching the flames and shooting the breeze.”

Piers eased his arm around Sylvee, pulling her against his side as they made their way to the bungalow. “Ash, you used to rag on me so bad for playing guitar.”

“I admit you were decent for being self-taught. I just liked razzing you.”

Sylvee didn’t add anything to the memory they shared. Piers cast a glance at her drawn expression. She must be as dead on her feet as a kid at an amusement park. After the day they’d had—and so many orgasms—she needed to be tucked under the covers and left to sleep until noon.

As they neared the lodge, the crackle of a fire and some low voices drifted to them. He’d ask Sylvee if she wanted to join them if he didn’t sense that she needed rest.

When they reached the bungalow, he led her inside with a hand on the small of her back. The door shut, and she whirled to face him and Ash.

He stared at her. Her mussed just-had-sex hair floated around her shoulders, and an angry vibe rolled off her in waves. After what the three of them just did, shouldn’t she be looking blissed out?

Ash stepped up to touch her shoulder. “Peachy, what’s wrong?”

“Want to tell me why you called me out of the blue that day?”

Fuck. He and Ash traded a look.

“It was a legal matter, right?” She shifted her jaw in that stubborn way Piers remembered so well from their youth. Realizing nobody could argue with her and win, they’d put the seed in her mind that she’d make a fantastic lawyer.

She pointed to the leather sofa. “Sit.”
