I grab my keys and helmet, rushing to the front door.

I drive over to the restaurant faster than I should but manage to get inside before the ten minute group rule so our table doesn’t get canceled.

“Bitch. You were this close.” Shock says as the hostess takes us over to our usual booth.

“Sorry, I’m running on five hours of sleep in four days.” Our medic frowns at me.

“Fine, I’ll forgive you. After this first round. Until then, you’re on my shit list.” She smiles at me, and I yawn.

“You look like shit Lacey. Why don’t you hire help?” Sparrow waves over a waiter who promptly takes our orders.

“Seriously, you have the budget.” Dice wrinkles her nose when someone walks by her, holding several platters of food.

“Nausea getting to you?” Shock asks her.

“Yeah, I have a super nose now. Pregnancy is weird.” She swallows hard after speaking.

“Excuse me,” She runs off, and I frown.

I’m not looking forward to telling her we aren’t adopting her baby. I sigh and lean my head back a moment. Why is my life so fucking difficult?

“Hey, what’s up?” Sparrow asks me, but I have no idea where to begin.

“I need several drinks before I can answer that.” I sit up straight as the waiter hands us our first round.

“Drink up, then, because if the look on your face is any indication of the news you’re about to deliver, then you need it.” Shock tilts her head slightly, observing me after she speaks.

“Sorry,” Dice retakes her seat, looking less green now.

“So back to you needing help.” Sparrow prompts.

“No one has passed Cannibals security checks. Hell, I’m still not sure how I did.” I sip my drink and smile.

“What is this?” I take another drink.

“Mango Orange mimosa. Good, right?” I nod at Sparrow as I chug the flute.

“Woo, easy. I know they’re bottomless, but shit girl.” Shock snickers as I wave the empty glass in my hand at the bar area.

“Should I just bring a pitcher?” The waiter asks when he walks over to me.

“Yes, thanks.” I turn back to the girls, who all look at me like I’m insane.

I sigh and slump back in my chair, then look at Dice.

“Mallory, I’m sorry. Makayla doesn’t think it’s a good idea to adopt a child in the family.” Dice nods reaches into her purse, pulls out an envelope, and waves it at us all.

“I wish I could have some liquid courage. It’s okay, Lacey. Especially since I got this.” She passes it to me, and I pull out a pair of sonograph photos.

Oh wow.

Baby A and Baby B jump right off the page at me.

“Twins,” I say as I pass Sparrow each a photo.

“Fucking Deacon curse.” She mutters as a big plate of pancakes with bananas gets placed in front of her.

She grabs the knife and fork before licking her lips.
