“See you two on the other side.” Kooper closes himself in his room as the nurse takes us into our room.

“I just need to get your vitals. The lab will be in to get your blood.” I nod and step on the scale.

The appointment is over quickly and we sit in the waiting room for Kooper when Makayla sighs.

“What’s taking him so long? You’d think he had jerked off to a science by now.” I slap her leg.

“Stop that!” She snickers at me.

“Oh, there he is.” Kooper comes over to us, holding a brown paper bag like it’s a bomb.

“Leftovers? I didn’t know they gave boogie bags here.” He cracks a smile for the first time in weeks, and it warms my heart.

“No, their system just went down. They can’t do the implantation or keep the sample because the refrigerators lost power.

As he speaks, the clinic loses power totally.

“Everyone, we apologize but will need to reschedule you,” the front desk staff says as the emergency lights come on.

“What about the embryos?” I panic, but Kooper grabs my shoulders.

“They’re on a generator. They’ll stay frozen in this regardless. It’s my guys who die in thirty-six or so hours. So, I have a to-go cup to bring back a sample when the power comes back. They’re going to call me.” I nod.

“Let’s go back to the house. It’s closer than the clubhouse. We can have dinner and relax until they call.” Makayla says in a cheery voice, and I smile but glance at Kooper.

He looks like he’s sucking on a lemon but nods.

Relax, right.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

COWBOY

“I’ll drive, Darlin’.” I take Lacey’s keys and open the passenger door so Makayla can climb in the back. I then help Lacey in before closing her door.

I wasn’t having any luck in that room. I stared at that cup like it had teeth and was going to bite my dick clean off until the power flickered and the nurse knocked on the door. I sighed in relief when she handed me a to-go cup and gave me very strict instructions on how to store the sample and how important it was to get it back here within two hours.

I get in behind the wheel and turn over the Jeep which sluggishly starts.

“You need a tune-up.” I rub the dashboard.

“You try starting your engines when it’s this cold, and you’re eighty years old.” I chuckle at Lacey.

“Fair enough. Buckle up. It’s getting icy.” I pull out slowly and start heading to their house.

God, I hate even thinking that. They shouldn’t be a thing. It should be us. I’d love to know how this bitch gaslighted Lacey into staying. She’s so damn loyal, and it’s wasted on a cunt like Makayla.

My knuckles turn white from how hard I’m holding the wheel.

Lacey places her hand on my knee and squeezes it. I relax instantly and pat her hand when we come to a red light. I hate how distant I’ve been with her. But I bared my heart to her, and she not only ignored my feelings but sided with a woman who clearly couldn’t give to shits about her.

I glance in the rearview mirror and watch her texting with someone who’s making her smile a little too hard for my liking. Maybe that’s my problem. I don’t need to like her at all. I just need to get rid of her.

Easier said than done.

Wolf sure was on board with that plan though. I don’t know what Abel found but the fact that the club would consider getting rid of a woman means Makayla isn’t the sweet innocent girlfriend she tries to make the world believe.

When I asked the President of Reno what they found, he said I was too close to the matter and to let them handle it. I trust my club, but for fuck sake, I didn’t think it would take two months, and they still haven’t done shit.
