I glance up and see the worried looks on Gage and Becca’s faces. The last thing I want is for them to stress out about this when they should be enjoying themselves. My instinct to take control kicks in.

“It’s okay, I’ll drive him to the hospital,” I say.

Gage starts to protest. “You don’t have to do that, Tyler. You’ve done enough already.”

“It’s okay. Really. I haven’t even had a drink yet so it’s perfect timing,” I say, trying to keep things light.

The photographer’s assistant thanks me between pained groans. Theo helps me walk him out to the front of the restaurant and waits with him while I run and grab my car.

Theo loads him into the passenger seat and shuts the car door. I pull ahead and drive to the nearest emergency room. Twenty minutes later, I’m at the drop-off. Someone in scrubs comes over and helps him into a wheelchair.

“Thanks a million, dude!” He salutes me. “I owe you big time.”

“It’s okay.”

Once he’s being wheeled into the hospital, I speed to the restaurant so I can get back to Tori.

Chapter 36

Tori

“Tyler’s not back yet?” I ask Becca when I help her to the bathroom.

“No, sorry.” She gives me a sad look. “I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”

I nod as I help carry the full skirt of her satin gown.

I think back to what he was about to say before all that commotion with the photographer’s assistant happened.

Tori, I…

In my fantasy, he was about to confess that he loves me.

Even just thinking about it now sends my heart racing. Maybe it’s silly that I thought he would say that. But I honestly thought he was going to. The way he looked at me in that moment…the way he looked at me when we stood together at the altar…

There was something different in his stare. More than emotion, more than lust, more than longing…

Just remembering it sends tingles all over my skin.

He was looking at me like he was in love with me.

“Hey.” Becca gently touches my arm. “He’ll be back. And you two will sort things out.”

She gives me an encouraging smile. I hope she’s right.

“Thank you for helping me do this.” Becca’s cheeks turn pink as she positions herself on the toilet while I hold up her dress. She pees, cleans up, and we walk to the faucet to wash our hands.

“Gosh, this is so embarrassing to have to ask you to help me pee. If I had known that I couldn’t use the bathroom on my own while wearing this dress, I wouldn’t have gotten it.”

I smile at her as she checks her reflection in the mirror. “It’s okay, Bec. Really. This is all part of my job as maid of honor. And no way, I wouldn’t have let you say no to this dress. You look so stunning in it. It was made for you.”

I take in how beautiful my best friend looks. She’s wearing a satin gown with a sweetheart neckline that frames her delicate shoulders perfectly. And the full skirt makes her look like a princess.

She gently smooths a hand over the sleek low bun she’s styled her hair in. She beams at me, her soft glam makeup still intact.

“Did you see the way Gage’s eyes popped out of his head when he saw you walking down the aisle?” I wiggle my eyebrows at her and she chuckles. “He’s going to rip this dress off you when you two get back to the hotel suite tonight.”

She blushes. “I hope so.”
