I look over at her right as panic flashes through her eyes.

“Wh-what do you mean? Is she okay?” Becca asks in a panicked voice.

Gage turns to her and gently touches her hand. “What’s going on?”

She turns away. “Okay, yes. I’m on my way,” she says to the person on the other line.

When she hangs, up her hands are shaking.

“Angel.” Gage grabs her hand. His gaze is wild with worry. “What’s going on?”

Tears fill Becca’s eyes. Her breathing is heavy and labored. “Tori’s been in a car accident.”

My blood turns to ice.

“She was t-boned by a truck.” Becca starts to cry.

“Is she okay?” I ask, my voice hard.

“I-I don’t know. She’s alive, the paramedics said she’s alive.” More tears fall down her face. “B-but they wouldn’t say more. They just said to come to the hospital.”

Gage looks stricken as he watches his wife cry. He hugs her. Declan and Austin look dazed at what Becca has just said. Theo tugs at his hair, his face pale.

My adrenaline spikes. Every cell in my body is screaming at me to get in my car and drive. Only one thought is clear in my mind.

I stand up, knocking over my chair.

“I need to get to Tori. Now.”

Just then Maya walks out of the bathroom. “Whoa, what happened…”

Theo darts up and rushes toward her, explaining in a hushed voice what happened. She gasps. She starts to speak, but her voice breaks.

“What hospital is she at?” I ask Becca.

She tells me the name. It’s the hospital I just dropped the photographer’s assistant at.

I start to head out, but Gage grabs me. I try to pull away, but his grip on me is solid.

“Tyler, wait. Take a breath, okay?”

I finally pull out of his grip, but he moves between me and the door of the restaurant.

“Get out of my way, Gage.”

He stops me with a hand on my chest. “You can’t drive like this, not when it’s snowing and you’re on the verge of losing your shit.”

“I need to get to her,” I blurt.

“I know you do, man. But take a breath first, okay? I know how you drive. The last thing we need is for you to get into an accident because you were so worked up.”

It takes a second for my brain to register what he’s said, but when I finally do, it makes sense.

I shoot out a breath. My shoulders sag. “You’re right.”

Gage drops his hand but stays standing between me and the door.

He looks over to where everyone is sitting. “We’ve all been drinking so none of us can drive. We need to call a rideshare.”
