“Okay, sure. I’m good with all that.”

She swallows. “We’d need to come up with a pretty convincing story to tell everyone why we magically went from friends to lovers in the space of a single evening.”

I smile at how smart she’s being about all this. Dumbass me wouldn’t have thought that far ahead.

“Yeah, that’s a good point,” I say. “We can say we got drunk and jumped each other’s bones.”

She tilts her head as she looks at me, a knowing smile playing across her lips. “We might need something a bit more compelling than that.”

I chuckle. “Tough sell, huh? Okay, I get it.” I try to think. “We can say we got caught up in the romance of these back-to-back engagements. It finally made us realize our feelings for each other and we decided to say screw it. Let’s give romance a try.”

For a second, Tori just stares at me. “That’s actually brilliant.”

I grin, feeling proud of myself for coming up with a cover story for the two of us.

“It’s settled then,” Tori says. “You and I are fake dating. We’ll attend Maya and Theo’s wedding as a couple, and Gage and Becca’s wedding as a couple. It sounds like they’re all wanting to get married sooner rather than later, so our arrangement will be for the next few months at least. Are you okay not dating anyone else for that long? If we really want to convince everyone that we’re together, we can’t see other people.”

I nod. “I’m absolutely okay with that.”

“We’ll break up after the weddings,” she says.

Just hearing Tori say the words “break up” sends an unexpected wave of discomfort through me.

Never mind that. I just need to focus on making our fake relationship seem convincing to our family and friends when we see them tomorrow morning.

I stick out my hand and smile. “Sounds good to me. Shake on it?”

I’m thrown when Tori just stands there and looks at my hand. I figured she’d chuckle and be on board.

But then she bites her lip and looks at me. “Actually, why don’t we kiss on it?”

I’m instantly smiling. “A kiss?”

She nods as she bites back an adorable smile. “We should probably practice. In case we decide to kiss tomorrow at brunch. I don’t want it to look weird or awkward. We have to sell ourselves as a convincing couple, remember?”

I reach out and gently grab her hand in mine, pulling her closer.

Her brow lifts as I rest my hands on her hips. “This okay?”

She rests her hands on my chest. I feel her relax into my hold.

“Yes.” A playful smile tugs at her pretty pink lips. Like she’s surprised at what I just did, but she’s also into it.

“You’re right. We need to practice before we’re in front of an audience tomorrow,” I say.

She pushes up on her tiptoes and presses her lips against mine.

Fuck.

It’s just a few seconds of her mouth on mine—she keeps her tongue to herself, so I do the same. But it doesn’t make this lips-only kiss any less hot. Her lips are pillowy soft. So fucking soft.

I moan at how good her mouth feels on me…how I want to feel it on other parts of my body…

I banish the thought from my brain. We agreed to no sex. I can’t let my brain go there. Ever.

I breathe in, inhaling her scent. She smells like sugar and oranges and flowers and fuck, it’s sexy.

She pulls away, dropping back on her heels and stepping out of my hold. Judging by the dazed look in her wide, golden-brown eyes, this kiss knocked her on her ass too.
