“Thank you, Dad,” Aurora said, taking my hand and giving it a squeeze.

“I just want you safe and happy, angel. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

She smiled and held me to her for a moment, before pulling away and asking, “How’s Olivia? You were scheduled to check in with her this morning, right?”

“She’s well. She’s settled your uncle into a new secure residence. She’ll be here by nightfall.”

“Good. That’ll be nice.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, I like her with you.”

I smiled. “I’m glad.”

“Hey, you ready to do this?” Aaron’s voice came from behind us, as he walked out onto the porch.

I eyed him. “Caleb has everything set up?”

He nodded. “He was able to work your tech. As for the files, he’s gonna need your passwords.” He looked at Asher. “That’s right. Passwords, plural. You two and your layered security shit. Jesus Christ.”

“An absolute necessity.”

“Seconded,” Asher said. He ushered the guys and Aurora. “Let’s do this.”

As they headed inside with Aaron, he hung back and walked with me.

“How long did it take you to crack my security to locate the Strenwell house?”

He shrugged. “A few days.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Quite a feat.”

“Were you behind sending Olivia there that night?”

I smiled. “Let’s just say that your paranoia wasn’t unfounded.”

“Careful. The more you do it, the harder it is to discern between lies and the truth.”

“I don’t disagree. Unfortunately, it’s been necessary.”

“And now? You’re ready to break through that and lay all your cards out on the table during this meeting of minds today?”

“You know as well as I do that the whole truth laid bare has the potential to destroy and destabilize. I’ll reveal what’s needed.”

He shook his head. “This is it now. Things have come to a head. It’s all or nothing, Lance.”

I gritted my teeth.

He dodged in front of me, blocking my path. Glaring, he ground out vehemently. “No. More. Lies.”

“Asher—”

“Everyone here is risking their lives. For us. For you. To end a war that you and I started. They deserve to know exactly what they’re walking into. The whole truth, no holds barred. Whatever you’re concerned about the fallout being, we’ll deal with it like we’ve dealt with everything else.”

Slowly, I gave a nod. “All right. I’ll see to it.”

Satisfied, he walked on ahead into the living room to join the others.
