“I wouldn’t put it exactly like that, but, yes, it’s him.”

“Go.”

“What? No. We’re not done here.”

“You can be. You’ve done more than enough already, stayed way beyond what I expected you to.”

“Is this about me breaking our agreement over Jonah? Honestly, that wasn’t planned, or—”

“You needed it, I get it. Believe me. We’re solid, Cal. After everything you’ve done, how you’ve helped me, it could never be any other way. If King needs you then it’s got to be urgent and, no doubt, dire. He never reaches out for help like this.”

“Especially not to me,” Caleb grunted.

“Exactly. We’ve got it from here.” Asher smiled. “Get out while you can, brother.”

Caleb nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I’ll head out in a few. Let’s finish this first.”

“All right.” Asher eyed my dad. “We have the makings of a strategy, let’s work on the details.”

“We won’t take them alone. We need to ensure every member of both organizations are taken down. Since I’ve been back, I’ve been working with my plants on gathering incriminating intel on every single member.”

“You’re going to hand it over to the feds?” I asked.

“That’s always been my intention. With the caveat that we terminate the heads. Even locked up, they’ll still remain a threat.”

“Agreed,” Asher said.

“What about Reed?” Killian asked.

Jonah told him, “He’s in the wind. He’s out anyway.”

“For how long, though?” Asher pointed out.

“I’ll get a lock on him and we’ll take it from there,” my dad offered.

Nods and agreements followed.

“And Valerie?” my dad asked Killian. “Has she made contact since that night?”

“No. Nothing. Not surprising seeing as though the last I saw her she drugged me and tried to fucking well kidnap me.” He blew out a breath. “Besides, she only had a cell phone on her for that night, a one-off thing because my father wasn’t within reach of her at the time and able to monitor her every move.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” my dad said.

“What does that mean?” Killian asked.

“It means, she may be more caught up in this than any of us realized.”

“What are you talking about?”

“She tipped you off that night, yes? She even knew about Samuel’s intent to kidnap Aurora.”

“And? She could’ve heard that from my father.”

“No. Giving her information would be giving her power. He sees her as a thing, as a doll, he wouldn’t allow that for the same reasoning behind her not being allowed a cell phone.”

“What are you saying?” Killian demanded, becoming more and more agitated with every passing moment.

“I believe she may have been tipped off by Isobel.”
