A sudden snarl came from Aurora, snapping our attention right back to the fight.

And then she was leaping at Lance.

She dodged all his attempts to snag her and deflect her attack, and then she locked her legs around his waist, flipped back, and used the momentum to twist sharply to the side and rip him off his feet in the process.

He reacted with the skill and experience of a fighter of his caliber and rolled out from beneath her.

But she was there with an underhanded move, driving her foot into his ribs and forcing him onto his back in the process.

He brought his knees up to stop her from jumping on him and pummeling him into the ground.

It connected with her gut and she doubled over, stumbling.

He reared forward and snagged her wrist, then executed a backward roll that threw her over his shoulder in the process.

But she just used the momentum to roll and flip back to her feet.

He grinned, impressed.

She threw her fist and he deflected it, but she followed through with a sneak attack, clocking him across the face and making his head snap back.

He moved to grab her foot as she went in for a push kick, but she brought her hand down and smacked his arm away before he could.

Then they traded blow for blow, each coming rapid-fire.

“She’s reading his movements, right?” Killian asked Asher.

He nodded. “She’s picked up on his pattern.”

It enabled her to snatch his hand and break the standoff.

He tried to use it to his advantage, but she twisted around and managed to trap him in an elbow lock. He grunted as she exerted painful pressure.

“You got me, angel.”

“You yield?”

“Either that or you break my arm. And we can’t have that with the upcoming mission.”

She released him and stepped back, breathing heavily and wiping sweat off her brow.

“You feel better now about me playing a part in what’s coming?”

“Well, you can certainly handle yourself.”

His phone buzzed on the bench and he snatched it up and took in whatever communication had just come in. He smiled widely, his eyes actually lighting up. “Liv is here.”

“Good. She’s early,” Aurora said.

“Always. I’m going to see her through the minefield surrounding the house.”

“Aaron is out there, he’ll see to her,” Asher told him.

“I’ve got it,” he insisted. “See to Aurora? Those cuts?”

“Of course we will,” Killian said.

Lance nodded, and then he was taking off out of the gym.
