He’d finally seen the truth.

Good. It would be the last thing he knew before I took his life.

He tried to grab the power drill off the bench next, fumbling in his freaked out state, and I was there, fisting my hand in the back of his hair and smashing his face into the old wood.

He gurgled as he smacked at me so he could push himself up, and I looked to see his nose broken and smashed to shit.

He fumbled and grabbed at the shock baton.

But before he could fire it up, I snatched up one of the rusted hunting knives, spun it in my hand, then sliced at his wrist.

He screamed as it cut deep and he dropped the baton.

And then I was there, slamming him down onto his back half on the bench, half off.

“You’ve been a stain on my life. No fucking more. You created a monster. Now you die by that creation.”

I brought the knife down and stabbed him in the throat, severing his carotid artery.

His eyes shot wide with absolute terror as blood spurted all over my hand, spraying my face.

I stepped back and watched as he clutched at the fatal wound, then slid off the bench and landed on his ass slumped against it.

Satisfaction, relief, and a whole slew of intense emotions rolled through me, and the knife slipped from my grasp as I watched my father’s life seep out of him right before my eyes.

I didn’t look away until the light finally went out of him.

Until I was absolutely certain that he was gone.

I scrubbed my hand over my face and staggered back as I struggled to reconcile that Carson Monroe was dead.

That it was finally over.

A screech sounded, echoing hauntingly through the room and I spun around just as none other than Isobel ran into the room, her eyes on Carson’s corpse.

“What have you done?” she screamed at me.

“Rid the world of the fucking devil,” I growled.

“He and I had a deal that would save us both, fix what you ruined! How dare you? You’ve just signed your death sentence!”

She pulled a gun then, cocking it and training it on me.

I eyed the blade on the ground that I’d dropped.

There was no way I could make it there and toss it before she fired.

Shit.

“It’s over, Isobel. It’s fucking over.”

“No! I’ve come so far!”

“In the wrong direction. You’ve made all the wrong moves. You’re just like him. Just like them. Twisted and power mad. Let it go. Think of your family. Your daughter.”

“That means nothing to me. It never did.”

“Then you’re truly lost.”
