“I know. The pop princess. She has a stalker and she’s come to us because she knows you and the guys from your previous high-profile status. She feels comfortable. And my reputation has gotten around too after the dust settled from our takedown of those assholes.”

“It’s babysitting a diva.”

“It’s guarding her and protecting her. Besides, I’ll be the one doing it. Along with Jonah. You’ll be focused on tracking the stalker and shoring up and improving her current lacking security setup.”

He ground his teeth, but I could see the opening there, him actually considering it now that I’d laid out my reasoning.

The door to our joint office flew open and Jonah burst on in. “So, what’s the word?” he asked, spinning a chair around in front of our double desks and sitting on it backwards, his arms draped over the back. “Who’s this new client you’re all excited about, Princess?”

“You’re excited about it?” Asher asked me.

“Yeah. It’s a big deal. It means we’re getting out there, really getting this firm off the ground.”

He cursed. “Fuck, fine. We’ll take it on then.”

“Really?”

“Yes,” he said, sliding his hand into my hair. “Seeing as though it means so much to you.”

“She’s got you over a barrel, huh?” Jonah teased.

“Watch yourself or I’ll have you over that desk and your ass spread open to me.”

“Mmm… fuck, don’t tease a man, Asher.”

Asher rolled his eyes.

I laughed. “Should’ve known better. He loves your punishments.” Especially when they were much more pleasure than any sort of pain these days, now that he’d calmed down and was no longer having to be on edge all the time now that the burden of the Infidels had gone.

And because he was undergoing therapy. He had been going consistently for the last eighteen months. It had take some convincing to get him to do it, but my dad had found him a discreet therapist who kept things off the record, which took away Asher’s paranoia where that was concerned. It was actually the same guy who was now treating my dad.

Asher was doing really well with it, coming out of the dark in ways we hadn’t even thought possible.

He told Jonah, “She’s a pop princess. Chantal Marriot.”

“Nice. This is gonna be a fun one. What are we talking? A stalker situation?”

“Yeah,” I confirmed. “A pretty twisted one at that.”

“Right up our alley. I’m here for it. Just let me know when and I’ll make it work.”

He was working at a mechanical engineering company after graduating like the rest of us a couple of years ago. He was using it to gain experience so he could move into his own. One of the business ventures Asher had set up a few years back had been an engineering firm for Jonah to head once he was ready. Asher had revealed it on his graduation day and Jonah had been ecstatic and he’d worked hard at this other firm ever since to get to a place where he could have it turned over to him.

Another venture had been a wildlife rehabilitation center for Killian to head. When he’d graduated, he’d started working at an animal sanctuary to learn the ropes to go along with his knowledge from his business degree.

And Asher and I had started up a private security firm six months ago after I’d taken on a whole lot of remote network and security jobs to fund it on my own.

Although Asher had wanted to help with that, I’d redirected him to putting it into Hexwood House so it was free and clear for us to own without any strings left over from the hold the Infidels had had over it.

Although all our jobs were outside Hexwood, Hexwood House was our home through and through now and we didn’t want to let it go. It had become a part of us.

“All right, I’ll set it up then,” I said, opening the file and about to get down to it.

But then Asher snatched it from me.

At my look, he told me, “Tomorrow, first thing. Tonight is ours.”

“But I—”
