“Asher?”

“He was taken.”

“Taken?”

“Carson got to him.”

“Oh my God, no. But… I was right there. If you pulled me out before that explosion, you should’ve been able to…” Blazing accusation burned into me. “You let them take him. You wanted him away from me and you let them take him.”

“Yes.”

“They’ll torture him, Dad! They’ll torture him!”

“A small price to pay for having you here with me. Safe.”

She launched herself at me then, bucking against my hold, become a rabid thing, something I hadn’t ever seen from her before.

And she had some impressive moves too.

She actually managed to push me off her, to break my hold.

But, as she went to make a break for it, I snagged her, then trapped her in a sleeper hold.

She struggled against me before it took effect, and then she lost consciousness.

“God,” Liv gasped, and I looked out to see her looking on sadly.

Yeah, this definitely hadn’t been the reunion I’d wanted either.

Those bastards had sullied it.

They’d sullied everything.

The message had been received loud and clear the moment I’d woken up in a dazed state.

He’d remembered I’d been a big fan of pink.

I paced around the space in a majorly restless state.

He’d locked me back in the generously sized finished basement that I now knew from my brief escape was beneath a bungalow located in the middle of nowhere.

He’d taken away the destroyed table and the metal leg I’d used to dig those window bars out. Dammit. That had taken me ages to make, considering there’d been no sharp objects to speak of anywhere in the place. I’d had to use brute force to break the legs at an angle and then use the relative sharpness of each to make them all the sharper.

Another message of his that I’d gotten loud and clear was that he absolutely hated my relationship with Asher, Killian, and Jonah.

We were talking seething hatred actually. He didn’t want me with them. At all.

He still saw me as that naïve little girl, the only version of me he’d known before he’d disappeared into the ozone.

He thought they’d corrupted me, that they brought nothing but danger and depravity into my life. He was afraid for me.

As I now knew because of Ronan, that he’d been watching me, gathering intel on me and my relationship with the guys. So he thought he knew, thought he had enough to make a judgment.

He didn’t.
