Her gaze trails up and down my body, taking me in. Unluckily for her no one compares to my moon. She comes around Luna and looks closer at my patch. Brothers of Sin and Sergeant at Arms are right there, in black and white. “You're a biker?”

“I am,” I nod, “Pleased to meet you.” Her eyes widen as we shake hands and her mouth drops open.

“Ohhh, you’re THE Chains.” My lips pull into a smirk at that little comment.

“Nice to see my name precedes me. With that, I’ll be taking off.” I spin on my heel and remember I drove Luna’s car. “I need to take your car.”

“That’s fine. I can get a cab tomorrow.”

“No, I'll grab you. Just let me know what time you want picking up.”

“My own personal driver. How did I get so lucky?” A smile lights up her face, more than it should after what she’s been through, but I know it’s a show.

I smile and walk away. If I don’t walk away now, I’ll be doing what I nearly did earlier, she doesn’t want me leering over her after what that fucking prick put her through. When I reach the door, I remember she doesn’t have my number. As I stride back, she looks up at me. “Got your cell?”

She goes to the couch, rifling through her purse until she pulls it out. She passes it over and I add my name to her contacts and give it back. “Message me in the morning.” My fingers itch to touch her, she’s a breath away from me. Not able to go without touching her one last time I take a gentle hold of her shoulders and kiss the top of her head. I don’t say another word; I walk out of the apartment this time and let the door close behind me.

In no time, I'm in the car with my toe to the floor to get back.

When I get back to the compound, I park Luna’s car and shove open the door to the clubhouse with a loud slam off the wall as it bangs shut. Heads turn my way as I stride in and my heavy footsteps thunder through the room. Reaper lifts his head from the slut that’s petting his neck, a stupid grin playing on his lips from the attention he’s getting, but it soon drops when he locks gazes with me. If the look on my face matches the way I’m feeling, it can’t be fucking good for anyone. He pushes her out of the way and slides off his stool coming toward me. “Brother?” The deep scowl sets in his forehead, he knows I’m pissed.

“I need to fucking talk to you. Now.”

CHAPTER 11

LUNA

The door shuts after I’ve watched him leave and with a few steps I’m at the door and sliding the deadlock across. “Giiiirll, that man is H.O.T.!” Neve says from behind me. My head falls to the door and I take a moment before I have to turn and face my best friend.

All the air from my lungs escapes in one breath. I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. I need a hot bath and sleep. I wrap my ruined shirt around me and hold it in place. The tips of my fingers digging into my sides as I pull in a breath, preparing myself to turn around.

“How the fuck did you let him walk away.” I hear her steps as they get closer, knowing I have to face her makes me feel physically sick. But I need do it; like ripping off a band aid.

“I didn’t get a choice in the matter,” I answer quietly.

“Luna?” her soft hand on my arm sets off the tears, like they’re just waiting to be given the okay to fall. Slowly, she turns me to look at her. “Babe?” Her gaze roams up and down, her hands moving to my shoulders to look me over. As my chin trembles, she tugs me against her while I sob into her neck. “What the hell has happened?”

I try to get my sobs under control and wipe my face before clinging onto my best friend like she’s going to be torn away from me. My breath shudders in my chest as I breathe deep to regain control. “Mac…” Biting down on my lip, I give myself a second before going further.

“Come on, let’s sit.” She leads me to the couch and with her arm around me she holds me close and takes my other hand. “Mac what?”

My eyelids blink. Tears blurring my vision as more fall and run a river down my cheeks as I try to focus on her. “You can tell me, Luna, it’s what I’m here for.” It’s so hard for me to say this out loud. I can’t even begin to think what would have happened if Levi hadn’t been his normally stubborn self and turned up at the bar. Using the heel of my hand I wipe my eyes and cheeks and blow out a breath to enable me to speak. I lick my dry lips and look at her, “Mac…he…he attacked me.”

Her eyes widen to the size of golf balls. “What the fuck, Luna. Are you okay, I mean did he hurt you. Fuck!” Her hands pull my arms from my body and looks me over, but the small movement of my arms causes my shirt to fall away at each side. She peers down and looks back at me cautiously, before eyeing my neck. She pushes my hair away from my neck. “Are you fucking kidding me.” Her gaze darkens and she almost turns deathly as she focuses back on me. “Oh my God.” She pulls me back into a tight hug and tears fill my eyes again, but I don’t want to cry, not anymore. I want a hot bath and to go to bed, but I know I need to start talking through it.

“He was at the bar; it was his turn to be my protector… ha that’s fucking funny, ain’t it.” I breathe slowly through my nose giving me a moment to choose my next words. “I sent Frisco away. The bar was quiet and all that was left to do was the clean-up. I was already tired and not really talking, all night though, he was touching me. I got so sick of him mauling me every chance he got so I told him to stop and went out back, you know put some space between us.” My voice is monotone as I relive the story. “There was no one I could call.’ My head shakes at the craziness of it all. I would never have thought Mac would do that.

“So where does Chains come into this?”

“He turned up at the bar. He was like my knight in leathers. I couldn’t believe it when I heard his voice.” A shaky sigh escapes my lips, “I thought I was hearing things and then he appeared. He was so angry, Neve. I don’t remember much after that. I just remember Levi beating Mac to a pulp. I watched every hit, every kick, but I was numb. I do remember seeing Levi put his gun to Mac’s head and all I could think was, do it. Kill him.” I find her eyes as she watches me carefully, “That’s fucked, right?”

“Luna, he’d just attacked you. Did he… well did he ra…” she gasps but I quickly shake my head.

“No. His fingers were that tight around my neck I thought he was going to strangle me, his knife sliced through the buttons on my shirt and his other hand was everywhere, bruising and grabbing. But I do think if Levi hadn't turned up, I think he would have done, and I wouldn’t have been strong enough to stop him. Silent tears run down my cheeks. I let them this time; I’m too drained to wipe them away. “Look, I think I’m going to run a hot bath and go to bed. I feel dirty.” My brows pinch tightly as I cringe at my own words. Kissing Neve’s cheek, I pull away and stand up, pulling the two halves of my shirt together again and covering my bruised body.

“Fucking Jesus, Luna. I’m here if you need me, you know that right?”

“I do.” I nod, “Thank you.” We watch each other for a long minute before I finally break and turn away, heading for the bathroom.
