LUNA

“Talk!” My father commands as we step into Church. His tone is not one to be ignored as he paces the floor. He’s pissed and has every right to be. You’d think he was pissed because three of the Savage Souls were taken out on our grounds, but no, this is about me. We kept the attack from him because I didn’t want to deal with it after Levi had. This is my fault and he’s no doubt going to blame Levi.

The door slams shut causing me to squeeze Levi’s hand as my body flinches. I need Levi’s courage to get through this conversation. I’m still devastated at the kid dying before my very eyes. I wonder if this is how doctors feel when they lose a patient in surgery.

Levi glances back at me with a cocked brow. The silent question in his eyes whether I’m alright. As my teeth graze my lip and my breathing quickens, I nod anyway. I need to get this over with.

“Well?” Dad shouts, making me flinch again as he takes his seat at the top of the table. I’ve only been in here a handful of times but even I know this is where everything gets handled, officially. Club business. Obviously, I’ve now become club business. “Is one of you going to speak?”

“Okay, but first, just know it wasn’t Levi’s idea to keep it from you. I made him promise not to tell you.”I find the courage to kick this off.

“Okay, so go on.”

I inhale, the breath fills my lungs. I’m nervous as Dad stares at me. His eyes dark, a fierce glare, that I’ve seen so many times over the years, watches me closely. I release it and glance at Levi, his fingers squeezing mine. “A couple of weeks ago, there was an incident at my bar. It was just after Country came back.” I drop my gaze to his desk and lower my voice. I'm sure, somewhere in my own mentality, I think that if I don’t say it loud, he won’t react as badly. “I was attacked in my own bar.”

“YOU FUCKING WHAT?”He roars, almost deafening me as it reverberates off the four walls and his fists come down on the on the table, his chair rears back and he shoots up out of the chair.

“Dad…?”

“Who?” His voice is dangerously low as his teeth grit together. “Chains?” I look at the man ready to lay his life on the line for me and he lifts his chin and looks Dad in the eye.

“Mac.” Chains speaks out.

“FUCK!” Dad yells again.

“I wanted to tell you.” Chains pitches in, “But as much as I respect you, Pres, I love Luna more.”

“I fucking knew there was something between you and Mac when you first came back, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.” He breathes slowly, evenly. I know he’s trying to keep his temper in check. “So you let him walk away?”He turns his deadly gaze on Levi.

“Not exactly, no.” Levi fires back. “But I couldn’t do what I wanted to do, and that was to rip him apart, piece by fucking piece,” Levi heaves, “instead, I kicked the fucking shit out of him and told him to leave town. He did for a little while, but he’s come back. I know what you’re gonna say Pres, and if I disappointed you and the club then say it now, but it won’t change anything. Fuck, I caught him trying to rape her! I heard her screaming from outside.” The rage building up inside of him emanates from him as I tighten my hand around his. I need him to do this calmly. He inhales through his nose and blows it out steadily. “I wanted nothing more than to slice every inch of his fucking body up, but Luna needed me, and I couldn’t let her see that too.”

Dad’s nostrils flare with the information Levi is feeding him. I think if he was a dragon, right now I’d see him breathing fire.

“Dad, please sit down.” He looks between us as I move closer to Levi. “For me?” Levi winds his arm around my back and holds me tight against him.

Dad retakes his seat but his posture is stiff as he looks up at us. “Does anyone else know about this?”

“Only Reaper,” Levi states, “and maybe Frisco. Look, we knew we’d have to tell you eventually, but we were kind of hoping he’d leave town like I told him to, and not come back.”

“Do you think Savage Souls turning up at the bar yesterday was because of him?”Dad asks, a little calmer,

“I know it is.” Levi replies, still gritting his teeth. He stands and takes it all on his shoulders, when really this is all my fault. And I can’t stand by and let him take all the blame, it’s not fair.

“Dad. This is my fault.”

“Luna,” Levi questions,

“Don’t you fucking dare do that.” Dad yells at the same time. “He’s a fucking scumbag and when I catch him, I’m gonna blow a hole in his fucking dick.”

“It is my fault, just let me finish.” Dad nods, giving me this one chance to gain his full attention. “We had a…thing, when I first came home. I know I shouldn’t have done it, and I knew your rules about not getting involved with any of the members, but we were drunk and I really didn’t care if I pissed you off or not.” We hold each other’s stare as I go on. “You’d sent the one person away that I loved with the whole of my heart.” I sigh. “I wanted to get my own back.”

“Right.” He nods, his chest still heaving, and the deep-set crevice between his brows is still there and is getting deeper. A shake begins in my hands as I watch the color draining from his face as he takes the information in. “And even knowing that you went against my rules, that gave him the fucking right to attack you? My fucking daughter.” His voice echoes off the walls. “He had the nerve to attack one of his own… I’ll fucking kill him.” He brings his fists down onto the long solid oak table again. I wish there was something I could say to make this better, but I know I can’t.

“Dad, I’m sorry.” Tears fall from my eyes as I grieve for everything that’s happened. Dropping my ass into a chair, I cry behind my hands. It might not make the situation better, but it might make me feel refreshed; renewed somehow.

A hand settles on my leg, and I see Levi crouching in front of me. “Hey,” his voice firm as he watches me. “This is not your fault. None of this is your fault, so I don’t want to hear that again. I was in the bar that night when he kept trying to get your attention. I left that night just so I didn’t fucking tear his hands off, but I swear to you, after what he did to you, and the events of today, that prick ain’t getting away with anything else. I swear, Lu.”

“Chains,” I see Dad appear behind Levi. Looking at my father from a seated view, he looks so large and intimidating, such an imposing figure. The way I used to look at him when I was just a kid. The man who used to protect me with his everything. “Let me have a minute, son.” Dad asks as he pats Levi’s shoulder.
