I waited impatiently outside of the small prison bunker we were trapped in for the others to get here while Mom gushed over Evie. I was sulking against a tree because she took her away from me, but at the same time grateful because I wouldn’t be able to keep my hands to myself while we waited. Uncle Lalo and Dad walked over to me as I watched Aunt Kassie making her way over to the two women.
“I take it whatever was bothering you earlier had something to do with her?” Uncle Lalo asked, smirking. I nodded, unable to take my eyes off my mate. Fuck. That sounded so good, even in my head. My mate. Evie was my mate.
A group of people appeared in the distance, heading toward us. Evergreen was at the front with Uncle Seb, along with a few warriors trailing after them. He ran when he saw us, hugging Evie tight, before walking over to me with the bolt cutters in hand.
“Evie, are you okay?” Paolo’s voice reached me, and I looked up from the cuffs to see him reach Evie and pull her into a hug. Rage filled me.
“MINE!” I roared, trying to push past everyone, but they held me back.
Paolo looked at me and then down at Evie. She pushed him away gently, and he looked at me again, comprehension dawning on his face before it turned into a scowl.
“No. Evie, you can’t,” he said, grabbing her hand desperately. I growled at the implications of his words and struggled against my family to get to him. I wanted him dead. He needed to get away from my mate. “Evie, please. Give me another chance. Choose me. He’ll never make you happy.”
“Let me go! Get away from her!” I growled, ready to begin hurting my own family if they didn’t let me get my mate away from that asshole. Evie frowned up at him and stepped away from Paolo, pulling her hand and cleaning it on her pants.
“Well, fuck, I’d let Cory go beat his ass for saying that. Who the fuck does he think he is, knowing better than the Moon Goddess, and accusing my nephew of not being capable of making his mate happy,” Aunt Kassie’s voice was anything but friendly as she looked at Paolo with scorn.
At least someone shares my anger, I thought, still glaring at Paolo, who remained too close to my mate for my liking.
“I’m not rejecting him, Paolo. He’s my mate, and I love him. I told you there was nothing between us,” she reminded him. I started to calm down at her words when Paolo opened his damn mouth again.
“He doesn’t deserve someone like you.” He growled.
“We deserve each other.” Evie looked at me before she looked back at Paolo. “You should leave before my mate loses control.”
Evie walked over to me, and just her touch on my arm helped calm me. Paolo looked ready to kill, but he turned around and stalked away.
“So, wait, you’re mated to Cory, Munchkin?” Evergreen asked while he continued cutting the silver cuffs off me after I calmed down enough to hold still. Evie nodded, and Evergreen huffed. I frowned, and my heart sank. I thought he liked me. Evergreen looked at me and noticed my confusion.
“I had this entire speech planned, threatening her mate with destroying him and everything he loved if he hurt my little girl, but I can’t exactly do that to the alpha of my own pack now, can I? All my years of practicing in front of the mirror down the drain,” he said, frowning, but a small smile found its way to his face when he looked at me again. Aunt Kassie snorted behind us, and everyone laughed while Evie rolled her eyes.
Mate! Tenoch cried out happily once the cuffs were removed.
Yeah, we figured that out already, I pointed out.
She’s in so much fucking trouble. All this time, I thought I was a monster because I wouldn’t even think about finding my mate while she was around, and the whole time she was it. Despite trying to sound angry, there was nothing but love in Tenoch’s voice, purrs coming from his chest and his tail wagged uncontrollably.
Yep, already told her she was in trouble, buddy, I let him know.
How are we going to punish her? he asked, excitement coursing through him at the thought.
I don’t know, but I’m looking forward to figuring it out. I looked at her, image after image of what we could do flashing through my head, and I had to start thinking about an Ebola epidemic in order to stop my cock from showing just what kind of images were in my head at this very moment in front of her father.
I pulled her to my side when we started walking back. The sparks were even stronger now without silver cuffs, and I struggled to suppress a moan at her touch. Why did I have so much fucking family around us right now?
“We’ll talk about what happened in the morning. Right now, Helios is waiting for us to do the run. Are you guys up for it?” Uncle Seb asked.
YES, YES, YES!!! Tenoch jumped in my mind.
“Tenoch will murder me in my sleep if I say no,” I joked.
“Tozi is pretty adamant, too,” Evie giggled.
“We’ll go through all the footage and figure out what happened. Adrien and Evergreen can get things started,” Dad added, and Evergreen groaned in front of us.
“I’m going to find my mate before the word ‘mating’ pops up in the conversation with regards to my daughter. Excuse me.” Evergreen sounded like he was in pain and ran off, making Evie giggle and blush.
‘If you don’t stop that, I’m going to incur the ire of both our wolves and your parents because I’m going to grab you and take you back to the pack house,’ I warned her; her blush only deepened.
