“Doesn’t matter. If we have a shadow, we can figure out height and build. If we have a path, we can ascertain their level of knowledge of Guardian Moon. We can tell a lot about what they know and how they behave. We can narrow it down from everyone in three packs to a more manageable list of suspects.”

Their thought process slowly became clear to everyone else at the table, and there was excitement within the group. It would be nice to start narrowing the list of possible suspects.

“We can use the recordings of the full moon gathering to rule out the people who were present during the time frame you two got kidnapped as well,” Evergreen added.

“Ooh, good one, Dad.” Evie praised.

“Thanks, munchkin.”

“How long will this all take?” I asked.

“A week or two. It’s a long list. I’m enlisting Zi’s help, so between the two of us, we should be able to get through a lot of the by the end of this week.”

“Why isn’t she here?” I asked.

“She’s never been at one of these meetings?” Evie pointed out.

“Maybe not, but she’s your right-hand woman. She’s been integral in all of this work, and she’s mated to our gamma. She belongs here,” I said. James’ eyes lit up, and so did Evie’s, while the rest nodded in agreement.

“I’ll make sure she is included from every moment forward,” Evie said, then she smiled and looked at James. “Actually, I think I’m busy. James can do it.”

“So what’s the second issue we need to address?” I asked before James could get up and hug my mate. They may be cousins, but I want no one but me touching her for the next little while.

“The second issue has to do with Tezcatlipoca,” Uncle Helios stated.

“What about him?” I asked.

“We have some intel about his operations. One of the men we took from the raid finally broke, and what he said matched information we’d been going over from the hard drives. We need to verify some of the other details he gave us, though, before we can see if we can use it.”

“What are you proposing?”

“There’s a place I want us to investigate, but we need Evie,” Uncle Helios finally got to the point of why we’re here.

“Why Evie?” I asked, ready to say no. I just got her by my side. How could they expect me to let her out of my sight already?

“She hacked into their system faster than I could,” Evergreen said proudly. “I’ve been going over it and trying, but I can’t beat her timing. This is a recon mission. Speed is crucial in order to get out of there safely.”

“Where is this place you want her to go? What’s the plan?”

“Vegas. We’re working on the plan, but we need to know if we’re utilizing her skills or Evergreen so we can plan around it,” Uncle Helios responded carefully. I could read between the lines. Evie and I just mated and marked last night. I was already overprotective of her before finding out we were mates. Right now, they were asking me if I would be able to keep myself and Tenoch in check in order to be able to get the job done. Everyone knew Evie would be the best person for the job, but they were trying to be considerate of our new bond.

‘You up for it?’ I asked Evie.

‘Yes. Are you?’ she asked in return, and I smiled, liking how she didn’t beat around the bush.

‘You’re not going to argue against me going with you?’ I teased her.

‘I believe you promised I could be glued to your side for the foreseeable future, and I intend to make you keep it,’ she countered teasingly before turning a little more serious. ‘I feel safer by your side and would miss you too much. It’s too soon.’

My heart soared at her words, happy that we were both on the same page.

“Evie and I will go with whoever else you deem we need,” I let everyone know. There was relief on their faces, and I almost rolled my eyes. I would never put my needs above the safety of our packs. “Evergreen, work with Zi, James and Jo on this, please. Jo, can you reach out to David and Areli so that Blue Moon stays in the loop? We probably should have gotten them on a conference call for this meeting. I don’t want them to believe we’re not involving them with this,” I instructed, and both men nodded at me. I turned to Mom, a little worried. “What else?”

Mom was the one I was worried about. Kara was one of Selene’s favorite siblings and wolf and they communicated a lot. If she had a message, it could only mean trouble. Thankfully, my worries were unfounded.

“We need to set a date for the luna ceremony and what she wants it to look like.” I turned to look at Evie, who looked frozen in place but soon realized she was deep in thought. After a few minutes, she came back to the room and looked at Mom.

“What’s the budget?” she asked, surprising both Mom and me. I expected a bit of resistance to having a ceremony. She never liked being front and center.
