“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“I was just thinking about how you’ve basically upgraded since you got a gift, then I remembered how Cory used to call you a Pokémon.”

“Used to?” Cory smirked, only to be elbowed by me. I didn’t mind him calling me his Pokémon. It was kind of cute, but I didn’t need the guys to start.

“So then I thought about how instead of upgraded, maybe you evolved and I was trying to figure out what Pokémon you evolved into.”

Jo pulled up his phone and started googling.

“Eevee has like eight evolutions. Would she be Umbreon or Sylveon?” he asked, looking up at Jo and Cory.

“I was thinking more like Vaporeon,” Cory replied innocently.

“No. Vaporeon’s attack is like a water cannon. Evie would be Umbreon. It’s like telepathy but with computers,” James argued while Cory’s eyes never left mine, making me squirm in my seat. Whatever he was thinking, I wasn’t going to like.

‘I’ve seen you use a water cannon ability though,’ Cory’s smug voice floated through my head, making me spit out the drink of water I had in my mouth and blush furiously.

“Dude!” James stood up, wiping the water off his face.

“Sorry,” I coughed, trying to get myself under control while Cory laughed until he was crying beside me.

We cleaned up after dinner, and before everyone left, I reminded them about girls’ night.

“So, tomorrow. The boys will go over to Zi’s to look after Molly. Meli, can you be ready by six? We’ll head down to the bar in town for girls’ night.”

“Oh! You want me to join? Are you sure?” Meli asked, hope in her voice.

“Yeah. I thought that was a given?” I asked, confused. Jo wrapped an arm around Meli’s waist.

“She’ll be ready.” When they left, I turned to Cory.

“What was that?”

“I think she feels like she isn’t part of the group because you two are so close.”

“But she’s Jo’s mate? We just haven’t had a chance to do a girls’ night until now. She hung out with me when Zi went on a date with James before.”

“I think she’s just not as confident of where she stands, love.”

“Well, we’ll just have to show her, then.” Zi winked before she left with Molly and James.

“Evie, you know you have to take some guards tomorrow, right?” Cory asked, looking a bit uncomfortable. I sighed. I assumed I would have to bring some muscle along, and I was tempted to stay in because of that reason, but Zi looked like she really needed to get out and unwind. The last month has probably been overwhelming for her.

“I know, but can they like sit a couple of booths down so we can have some privacy?”

“Of course. I’ll reach out to them in the morning. Let’s go to bed my little Pokemon, before you evolve again.” He smirked, making me punch him in the stomach before running to our room. Cory’s laughter followed me, and before I could even reach the bathroom, he scooped me up and dropped me into the bed.

“You shouldn’t hit, dearest. That’s very naughty, mate” Tenoch’s black eyes were looking down at me as he covered my body with his, a feral hungry look in his eyes. I gulped, excitement causing a shot of heat pulsing through my body.

“Maybe you should punish me, Alpha,” I challenged.

‘Evie, are you busy?’ Cory sounded excited when he mind-linked me before lunch time the next day.

‘No more than usual? What’s up?’ I answered. I was in the technology building today catching up on work; tomorrow I’d be in the pack house office learning from Celeste.

‘You’ll see in a bit! Love you!’ Cory said before cutting off the mind-link. I was confused, but I could tell nothing was wrong, so I continued to work, reviewing the presentations Zi thought had the potential to be full-time projects. I heard the elevator ring, and I saw Cory walking over with a beautiful dark-haired woman with straight hair. She waved at me excitedly, and my jaw dropped.

“Bells?” I called, and she grinned widely at me. I was out of my chair and running toward her moments later. “What the hell did you do to your beautiful hair!” I screamed, giving her a big hug, well aware of the audience we attracted with my yelling.
