“Would you guys stay for dinner?” Valeria asked. I looked at Evie, letting her know it was up to her. She nodded at her mom. “Thank Goddess. I could use a drink. Evergreen will be cooking tonight. Isn’t that right?”

“Yes, dear,” Evergreen answered, sighing and heading back toward the staircase before he turned around. “Adrien, will you be staying?”

“No, thank you. Tori is home for a few days. Elias should have dinner ready soon. I just need that program,” he answered sheepishly.

“Right. Here.” Evie pulled the USB from the computer and handed it to Adrien with a blush on her face.

“Hey, it’s quite alright. I’m happy you guys talked things out.”

After dinner, while we lay in bed, Evie was looking up at the ceiling with a thoughtful look on her face.

“Are you still mad at your Dad?” I asked.

“No. I want to be, but... it never crossed my mind that it wasn’t just you guys that I shut out of my life. Dad was my best friend. We always geeked out and talked about projects, and I didn’t realize how much it affected him. It’s sweet, in a way, that no matter where I went, he was looking out for me.”

I thought about her words and grabbed my phone.

“Ready for another confession tonight?” I asked her. She sat up, a look of trepidation on her face.

“What did you do?” she asked. I felt the heat coming to my face, but I unlocked the phone and looked for the files. I passed the phone over to her and waited for her reaction. She gave me a blank look before swiping on the screen to keep flipping through everything. Her hand fell on the bed as if the phone weighed a ton when she was done.

“Can you say something, please?” I asked.

“You were there? Both times?” she asked, and I nodded. “Cory, why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you approach?”

“I-I didn’t know if you were still mad at me, Evie.” She opened her mouth to speak, but I shook my head. “I know now, Evie, but back then, I thought you didn’t want anything to do with us. James and I asked Dad to let us go to New York for the weekend as a graduation present. Jo was in Mexico. Evergreen talked about your graduation ceremony for weeks, and we couldn’t just not go, so we rented a car and drove up to see you. We bribed the security personnel to let us in. I went alone to the second one. I didn’t tell anyone I went.” I shrugged. “I was proud of you. I wanted to be a part of your success, even from far away.” I took the phone back and flipped through the photos I’d taken of her graduations. I remembered how proud I felt watching her walk across the stage, a small smile coming to my face.

“What’s wrong?” I frowned when I looked up to find Evie crying. I didn’t think what I did was bad enough for tears. I didn’t get a chance to react before she dove on top of me, kissing my lips, my eyes and I think that was her tongue almost up my nose.

“I love you. I love you. I love you.” She kept repeating.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Evie

I was getting ready for dinner on Sunday afternoon when I got a mind-link from Celeste. She sounded concerned and asked me if she could come over to talk. Cory was in the shower, so I popped into the bathroom to let him know his mother was coming up.

“Is everything okay?” he asked, turning off the shower and furrowing his brows.

“I’m not sure. It sounded serious, but she didn’t tell me what she needed.”

“I’ll be right out,” he said, grabbing the clothes I had in my hands, knowing he didn’t bring anything in with him.

There was a knock on the door, and I let Celeste in, surprised to see Adrien, Elias and Markus with her.

“Hi, sweetie. I’m sorry to interrupt, but I didn’t know who else to turn to. Your dad’s not in the pack grounds, and it may be urgent.”

“What’s going on, Mom?” Cory came out of the room, taking everyone in.

“We can’t find Violet or Tori,” Celeste said, her brow furrowing.

“What do you mean? Violet hasn’t been off pack grounds since Blue Moon,” Cory said, looking at everyone’s faces.

“I know, but she’s been hanging with Tori all weekend, and now we can’t find either one. Tori told Adrien she was hanging out with Violet today, but Violet left the house saying she was coming to the pack house. We’ve asked around, and they were both here for lunch, but no one’s seen them since.”

“Neither one of them is answering their phones,” Elias said as he looked at his phone in his hand.

“Maybe they went to the movies. That would explain the phones.” Cory paced around.
