“What’s happening?” Evie asked.

“I need to talk to you both about this spell I need to cast.”

“Oh, is that how you’re doing this?” Evie asked.

“Yep.”

“Okay. I’m listening.” She sat herself on a chair. Zi squirmed, and I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like what she was going to say.

“Well, the spell is originally a binding spell and some consider it a form of love spell. I’ve reworked it, but it might have some of the same side effects.”

“Which are?” Evie asked, cocking her head adorably to one side.

“Well, it’ll allow the earrings to send sound to the Bluetooth speaker, but it might also...”

“What?” Evie prompted when she trailed off nervously.

“It might also send the conversation you have with your wolves to each other while you’re connected to the items,” she rushed the words out.

“What?” Evie said, a little alarmed.

“Yeah, and as much as I tried to remove or replace any of the original wording, you might feel... a tiny bit... attracted to each other.” It was my turn to panic, except there was no sound coming out of my mouth.

“Zi...” Evie groaned.

“Look it’s not ideal, but it should work and it should dissipate in about three days. It was the only way to link you together to make the sound work between items,” she said and I could tell she felt bad about it. I sighed.

“If this is the only way to make it work,” I said. “We’ll do it.”

“Really?” Evie snapped her eyes over to me.

“Whatever it takes to make sure you are safe,” I told her.

It’s not like we’re not already in love with her and hiding it, Tenoch added sarcastically.

When we do this, you’re going to have to keep these thoughts to yourself, I warned him.

Whatever it takes to keep them safe, he repeated my words back to me.

“Okay. When do we need to do this?” Evie finally asked. There was a tired look on her face, and I could tell she wasn’t happy with this —like it hurt her thinking about feeling attracted to me. It stung, but I kept my thoughts to myself.

“About an hour before you leave will work. Your earrings and speaker will only connect while you’re both touching them. So Evie, while you’re wearing them, Alpha Cory needs to be touching the speaker in order for him to hear everything.”

“Okay, well, we’re leaving tomorrow around noon, so we’ll meet back here around ten?” Evie looked over at me.

“It’s best to do this at our place, Evie,” Zi mentioned.

“Either works for me.” I shrugged, trying to hide the panic and nerves.

“Okay. Ten am at our place,” Evie confirmed.

“Sounds good. I’m going to head back and get some work done. Thank you for all the work you put into this Zi. I appreciate it,” I made sure to let her know.

“No problem, Alpha. Whatever I can do to help,” she answered happily. I left and by the time I got back to the office, I was close to hyperventilating.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Jo caught me on the way in. “You look like you’re about to hurl,” he said, furrowing his brows in concern.

“I’m okay,” I managed, but I sat down and gripped my hair, trying to calm the fuck down. After a few minutes, I managed to calm myself down enough to explain what was happening to Jo.
