“Yeah, it’s better for sure, but it still feels fairly useless in a fight,” I said and continued to tell her a few of the incidents I’d caused over the last few years. It had her laughing until she was crying, which I honestly enjoyed seeing. It was worth reliving the humiliation to see her so happy.

“Well, I can see why you would be a little frustrated with it. I’m sure there’s a reason you have your gift. We just have to find it.”

“I’ve been thinking it might be because Tenoch is a powerful alpha wolf. Maybe we’re not supposed to have too much power. I mean why else would I be the only one of my siblings with a useless power?”

“Elemental powers aren’t useless. It’s all about how you use them.”

“Well, if you think of a way for it to be useful, let me know,” I chuckled. “So far, it just makes for some good comedic relief.”

We arrived at Columbus shortly after and we were both back to our normal selves. We picked up our rental car and had dinner nearby before we went to our hotel and got ready for the meeting. Well, Evie got ready for the meeting. I just had to sit in the car while she put herself in danger. I sighed and looked at the door separating our suites. I still wasn’t comfortable with Evie going in by herself, but there was nothing I could do about that. I just hoped the earrings worked well enough while she was inside. I looked at the clock and went over and knocked.

“Are you almost ready? The party starts at eight.” I reminded her.

“We’re not showing up right at eight, but yes, I’m ready,” she said, opening the door. I took a step back and held my breath. I didn’t think I’d ever seen Evie in a dress, and now I was realizing what a crime against humanity that was. The dress she was wearing was a modest, simple black wrap dress, but it was making my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth.

Were her legs always that enticing? I wondered because, looking at them now, I wished I could grab and wrap them around me. The sleeveless V front had her breasts playing peek–a–boo with my eyes and the wrapping around her waist hugged her wonderfully full hips perfectly, the small gap in the wrap showing a glimpse of thick thighs I wanted to dive into. I dragged my eyes away from her before I could make a fool of myself, and busied myself with my bag.

“Are you wearing the earrings?” I asked when I pulled out the speaker, still in the cloth. I looked up and took her in again. Her hair was in some sort of updo, and I could see the dangling sparkly earrings on her. She shook her head to show me she was wearing them.

“Ready to go,” she happily said, completely unaware of the trouble I was having staying in the seat I’d taken next to my bag or the way my hands were itching to hold those curves.

“Okay. So if we’re not going to enter on time, what are we doing?” I asked, trying to get my mind off my dirty thoughts before it got me in trouble. Though I could always blame the spell, the last thing I wanted was to make things between us awkward for Evie later. We were just starting to get her back into our circle of friends. I didn’t want to blow it for all of us.

“I thought we could take some video of who all is coming to this party. Have Dad go through his software recognition. Everything I’ve learned tells me that this man knows nothing about the supernatural, but I’d like to know if more than just these guys are reaching out to him for tech or code. I don’t want more surprises. The work Crescent Moon helps Uncle Helios with makes us a lot of enemies.”

“That’s a good idea. Did you bring a camera?” I asked.

“Most phones take professional quality video and photos at this point.”

“Right,” I said. “You have the money?” I asked.

“Yes, all in here,” she said, patting a purse I hadn’t noticed hanging at her side.

“Okay. Remember, if the mind-link doesn’t work when you go in there, you need to get out. If they know about us, they’ll know what you are, and I won’t be able to know if you’re in trouble,” I told her when we got to the location.

“I know, Cory. I won’t try anything heroic. I promise,” she said, grabbing my hand and squeezing it. I felt shock going from where our hands connected all the way to my chest, and she pulled her hand back. “This dress picks up so much static electricity,” she said, pulling her dress down subconsciously, and then grabbed her phone.

We parked a bit away from the location so that we wouldn’t be seen and used our phones to try to get some good shots and videos of the people going in. After two hours, it was time.

“I should head in now,” she said, her voice a bit nervous. I pulled out the speaker and put it right on my lap.

“I’m only seconds away. If you get in trouble, ask for a large glass of water, no ice, and I’ll run in.” She nodded with a strained smile. She got out, and I put my hand on the speaker.

“You can do this. You can do this,” she kept whispering to herself, and I sent a quick prayer to the Goddess that she would be okay.

“Invitation, please.” I heard the bouncer ask.

“Here you go.”

“Please finish this line of code,” the bouncer said. After a few minutes of silence, he spoke again, “I need to search you.” I held my breath.

“You can enter. He’ll find you at the bar in a little while.”

“Thank you!”

“No problem, sweetheart,” he said, and I had to control my growl. I didn’t want anything pushing through the mind-link by accident because of the spell.

‘I’m in. Can you still hear me?’ she asked.
