His silent laughter shakes the couch, and my grin widens.

“My girl is smart,” he mumbles through his laughter.

Something warm settles in my belly at him calling me his girl so easily. He might not truly be mine, and I might not have his heart, but I have a feeling this little adventure we’ve found ourselves on is going to be a fun ride.

My eyes pop open when I feel myself being lifted into the air. “I’ve got you,” Legend says softly.

“What are you doing?” I slide my arms around his neck and hold on.

“Taking you to bed.”

Even in my sleepy state, his words have my body heating. “I can sleep on the couch.”

“Not happening, gorgeous.”

When he lays me down on his mattress, it feels as though I’m on a pile of clouds. “Wow, okay, this is nice,” I say, snuggling under the blanket to ward off the chill of the air-conditioning.

Legend’s soft chuckle has me forcing my eyes open. “Do you want to change?”

“Nah, I’m okay.”

“You sure?”

I nod. “I’m sure.” I smile up at him. At least I hope it’s a smile. I’m too sleepy to really know for sure. However, when he leans forward and presses his lips to my forehead, I feel that.

He doesn’t say anything as he stands and disappears into the bathroom. I focus on my breathing to even it out before he crawls into bed beside me and thinks I’m some kind of creepy nighttime heavy breather. It’s not me; it’s him. I already knew he was a good guy, but I’m seeing a side of him I’ve never been privileged to witness before.

I like it.

I like it a lot.

When I feel the bed dip, my eyes spring open. I don’t roll over to face him. Turns out, I don’t have to. Legend moves in behind me and wraps his arms around me. I feel his lips press to the back of my head. “Goodnight, wife,” he murmurs.

I don’t move a muscle. I’m certain he thinks I’ve already fallen asleep. I’ve never slept the night in a man's arms. I’ve never slept next to a man at all. Sure, I’ve had opportunities, but I wasn’t just giving myself to anyone. I’ve yet to meet a man who has earned the right. I didn’t really think about that when I signed up for this.

Not that it matters.

I trust Legend, and a girl could get used to falling asleep like this every night. Closing my eyes, I let the warmth and security of his arms lull me to sleep.

“Morning, gorgeous.” A shirtless Legend smiles as I enter the kitchen. “I was getting ready to bring you breakfast in bed.” He nods toward the two plates of bacon, eggs, and toast on the counter.

“Oh, should I go back?” I point over my shoulder. “I’m down with some pampering,” I toss back at him.

He grins. “Sit your pretty ass down and eat.” He picks up both plates and carries them to the small four-person dining table, placing one in front of me. “Coffee? Glass of milk?” he offers.

“Just water for me. I’m not a big fan of white milk.”

“Just white milk?”

“Yep. I can drink chocolate milk all day long. Oh, and orange juice, but it needs to be nice and cold.”

“I’ll remember that,” he says, handing me a bottle of water from the fridge, taking his seat next to me.

We dig into our breakfast, and I debate on bringing up him taking me to bed last night. I decide against it. No need to make things awkward this morning. “So, I’m going to need to shower and change before going to your parents' place.”

“I’ll grab a quick shower, and then we can go to your place, and I’ll wait for you. You might want to go ahead and leave a few things here. We might end up with more nights like last night, and it’s all going to come here, eventually.”

“Probably a good idea. At least a toothbrush and a change of clothes.”
