“Why is Mr. Josh still here?” Junie asks.

“About that… I have something to tell you.”

“You do?”

“I got married to Mr. Josh.”

“You did.”

“I did.”

“Okay. Why?”

“Because I love him, and he’s your daddy.”

“I knew it!” Grandpa shouts from the kitchen.

“My daddy?” she asks, looking at me.

“Hi Junie.”

“Daddy?” She runs over to me, and I pull her into my arms. I thought she’d be angry because I wasn’t there for her and in time she may be, but that time isn’t now. This is my family coming together. I have never felt so much love before.

Two Months Later

Moving to Phoenix was easy. I’ve set up my office in one of the spare bedrooms of March’s, now our, house. My parents have come to stay and have done nothing but make March feel loved and welcome, just like I knew they would.

“March, Josh told me how you felt when you were younger, and I just want you to know that we wouldn’t have done anything like that.”

“Thank you, Brittany.” March says. I watch as they hug. My dad and I are drinking beers in the living room.

“Son, you found her. How are you feeling about that?”

“Great dad. I wasn’t expecting Junie, but I already love her so much.”

“That’s what happens. One second, your just a man, the next a father. It’s like a switch that goes off.”

“That’s how it felt, but to be honest, I felt that way before I knew she was mine.”

“That’s because you knew, deep down. It’s primal.”

“I figured it was something like that.”

“Dinner’s ready,” March says. We pile around the kitchen table.

This is my family. It’s finally complete.

EPILOGUE

MARCH

SEVEN MONTHS LATER

I have never been this happy. I’m married, in love, and five months pregnant. Junie is enjoying her Daddy, and to be honest, so am I. I finally understand what a full, well-adjusted family is like. We found more sisters and our father, but I’m most happy with the little family I’ve got with Josh and Junie and the baby boy in my belly. About a year ago, I started going to night school to finish my associate degree, and I started working at a bank a few months before Josh came back into our lives. I had requested summers off to be with Junie and was surprised they gave them to me. I’m now on track to be a bank manager, and that’s what I’ve wanted for a while now. Everything is coming together.

I just put Junie to bed, and Josh is working in his office. He relocated to Phoenix to be with us. We could have moved to Seattle, but my job and Junie’s school are here. Josh decided he could work from anywhere, so he set up his office in one of the spare bedrooms. His office door is open, and he’s on the phone. He’s speaking Portuguese, which I didn’t even know he could speak. I wait as he finishes up the call.
